Red Line service will be affected by weekend construction work; CTA will provide extra service for upcoming events around Chicago including the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K race
The CTA is notifying customers of weekend construction work that will temporarily affect Red Line service and about extra service that will be provided related to upcoming events around Chicago.
Howard-bound Red Line trains will run express from Sheridan to Howard bypassing several stations because of track improvement work planned over the weekend.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
For customers heading to the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K race in Grant Park, the Penn State vs. Northwestern football game at Ryan Field and upcoming events at the United Center this weekend, the CTA is a convenient and affordable transit option with extra service being provided for each event. Additional details below.
WEEKEND IMPACTS:
Howard-bound Trains to Run Express from Sheridan to Howard
Construction crews will perform track work as part of the Purple Express Improvement Project beginning 10 p.m. Friday, November 6 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 9. Howard-bound (northbound) Red Line trains will run express from Sheridan to Howard, bypassing the Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse and Jarvis stations.
95th-bound (southbound) trains will continue to serve all stations throughout the weekend.
Howard-bound customers (northbound) at Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse or Jarvis stations will need to take a 95th-bound train to Sheridan and then transfer to a Howard-bound train.
Howard-bound customers who want to exit at the affected stations will need to travel to Howard and transfer to a 95th-bound train.
For alternate service through the affected area, CTA recommends customers use the #22 Clark (24-hour service), #36 Broadway, #147 Outer Drive Express or #151 Sheridan buses, which run parallel to the Red Line.
Once the project is completed later this fall, Purple Express trains will provide faster, smoother and more reliable service. For more information on the project, visit: http://www.transitchicago.com/pxproject/.
