CTA to Provide Extra Service for Bears Pre-season Game and 2015 Chicago Air and Water Show

August 12, 2015

The Chicago Transit Authority is a convenient and affordable transit option for those traveling to upcoming events around Chicago, including the Chicago Bears first pre-season game at Soldier Field, the 57th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show at North Avenue Beach and Festival Cubano at Riis Park.

The CTA strongly recommends that customers traveling to and from these events this weekend purchase fares in advance to decrease travel times and avoid long lines at rail station vending machines. Customers can load ahead of time transit value or unlimited ride passes (1-day, 3-day, 7-day and 30-day) to their Ventra farecards at rail stations, online or at nearly 1,300 local retailers (locations available at ventrachicago.com). Other ways to pay fares including purchase from CTA vending machines 1-day unlimited ride tickets ($10) or single-ride tickets ($3) that include up to two transfers in two hours. Customers can also pay their fares with their personal contactless debit or credit cards.

The CTA also recommends that customers allow extra travel time.

Bears Game

The Chicago Bears pre-season kicks off Thursday, August 13 at 7 p.m. at Soldier Field. The CTA will operate the #128 Soldier Field Express between Union Station, Ogilvie and Soldier Field, and will provide additional #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express service for customers heading to the game. Additional service will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. and continue until one hour after the game ends.

2015 Chicago Air and Water Show

To accommodate increased ridership, the CTA will provide extra bus and rail service for the 2015 Chicago Air and Water Show at North Avenue Beach on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16.

RAIL:

Longer trains will operate beginning at approximately 7 a.m. until approximately 6:30 p.m. on the Blue, Brown, Green and Orange lines Saturday and Sunday.

BUS:

On both Saturday and Sunday, extra bus service will be provided on the #72 North Avenue and #151 Sheridan routes. The extra service will begin at approximately 9 a.m. and conclude approximately one hour after the event ends each day.

Due to the anticipated heavy pedestrian traffic, buses that travel north and south on Clark will travel on LaSalle between Division and LaSalle Drive on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The following bus routes will be affected: #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #73 Armitage and the #151 Sheridan.

Festival Cubano at Riis Park

To accommodate customers traveling from Festival Cubano at Riis Park this weekend, CTA will provide additional service on the #74 Fullerton route beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
