CTA also reminds customers of the Argyle station temporary closure next week
The Chicago Transit Authority reminds Red Line customers of the upcoming temporary closure of the Thorndale and Argyle stations beginning this Friday night and next, respectively, as work associated with the Red North Interim Station Improvement project continues.
THORNDALE (This Friday)
Beginning 11:59 p.m. Friday, August 17, the Thorndale Red Line station will be temporarily closed until late-September to allow crews to perform much-needed capital maintenance work. Thorndale, which was last rebuilt in 1921, is the third of seven stations to be temporarily closed as part of the $86 million rehabilitation project.
Alternate Service Options for Thorndale Customers
During the six week closure of the Thorndale station, customers will be directed to use either the Granville (approximately four blocks north) or Bryn Mawr stations (approximately five blocks south).
ARGYLE (Next Friday)
Customers who use the Argyle Red Line station should prepare for the temporary closure of the station beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, August 24 until early October.
Customer Notification
To alert customers to the upcoming temporary station closure, CTA service alerts have been posted at rail stations along the north branch of the Red Line. In addition, fliers will be posted and distributed in the surrounding area and reminders will be sent via CTA’s Twitter and Facebook feeds and to subscribers of
CTA Updates.
Information specialists will be available at the Argyle station to answer questions and provide service information during the morning and evening rush periods next week – Monday, August 20 through Friday, August 24.
Alternate Service Options for Argyle Customers
During the six week closure of the Argyle station, customers will be directed to use either the Berwyn or Lawrence stations, which are both approximately four blocks to the north and south, respectively.
As an alternate to rail service, bus service options are available within two-blocks east of the Argyle station along Sheridan Road (
#151 Sheridan) or a half-block west on Broadway (
#36 Broadway).
Every effort will be made to minimize the impact to customers during the rehabilitation project, including scheduling work that will impact Red Line service to overnight or weekends only. Any changes to Red Line service will be posted to the CTA website each week.
This Red North Interim Improvement project is part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Building a New Chicago program, which is updating infrastructure that's critical to the city -- and includes improvements that will help ensure that CTA continues to serve customers as effectively as possible.
