From the Office of Governor Pat Quinn:
Adds Public Interest Lawyer, Environmental Policy Expert
CHICAGO – November 11, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today appointed a public interest attorney and an environmental policy professional to the Board of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Joining the transit board is John Bouman, president of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and Katie McClain, Chicago City Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative for the William J. Clinton Foundation.
“CTA riders will be well-served and represented by these two fine professionals,” said Governor Quinn. “They bring a wealth of practical experience and a fresh perspective to dealing with the challenges of mass transit and its important role in our economy and society. Each will be a strong voice for CTA passengers and stakeholders.”
Bouman has run the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law since 1996, where he served as President and as Director of Advocacy for the Center. Serving as a public interest attorney since 1975, Bouman has forged numerous working relationships with community groups, policymakers and all branches of government throughout his career. (Background below)
McClain has been Chicago City Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation since 2007. At the Foundation, McClain has worked on the implementation of environmental policy and green initiatives at the state and local levels of government. Specifically, she has worked to advance the use of carbon-neutral transportation technologies in urban areas. Prior to joining the Clinton Foundation, McClain was a senior policy advisor to then-Lt. Governor Quinn. (Background below)
The CTA operates the nation’s second-largest public transportation system and covers the City of Chicago and 40 surrounding suburbs. On an average weekday, approximately 1.7 million rides are taken on the CTA.
