Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of June 16-18

Temporary Weekend Loop ‘L’ Reroutes; CTA to provide extra service for Metallica concert

The Chicago Transit Authority will provide increased bus and rail service for the Metallica concert at Soldier Field on Sunday, June 18 at 6 p.m. Separately, the CTA rail service in the Loop this weekend will be temporarily affected by construction work on the new Washington/Wabash rail station by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).

CTA is a convenient and affordable travel option for fans attending the Metallica concert at Soldier Field:

Bus Scheduling

  • #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express: Additional service will be provided from 3 p.m. until the beginning of the concert and then until approximately one hour after event break.
  • #130 Museum Campus: Additional service will be provided from 3:30 pm until the beginning of the concert and then until approximately one hour after the event ends.

Rail Scheduling

  • Brown/Orange Lines: Longer trains will run from 4:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m.
  • Blue Line: Longer trains will run from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Loop ‘L’ trains rerouted due to work on new Washington/Wabash station
Construction work on the new Washington/Wabash station will require the temporary closure of portions of the Loop elevated tracks beginning at 2 a.m. Saturday, June 17 until 4 a.m. Monday, June 19. As a result of these track closures, Brown, Orange, Green and Pink line trains will be rerouted as follows:

Orange & Brown Lines: Trains will operate as one route between Kimball and Midway, via Wells and Van Buren.
Green Line: Trains will operate between Harlem and 63rd via Wells and Van Buren.
Pink Line: Trains will operate between 54th/Cermak and Polk, then to Racine Blue Line for connecting Blue Line train service to/from downtown.

Customers may transfer between the Loop elevated and Blue and Red line subways using the Harold Washington Library (Loop elevated) and Jackson (Blue and Red lines) stations.
