Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Southbound Single Track in Effect between the Grand and Roosevelt Stations

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains between the Grand and Roosevelt stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, April 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to sewer cleaning in the subway.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, April 5 through Friday morning, April 9, southbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Grand and Roosevelt stations as subway sewer cleaning continues next week.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Unable to Enter Loop Early Saturday Morning

Brown Line trains will be unable to enter the Loop from 5 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, due to structural maintenance work on the Wells Street Bridge.
 
Brown Line trains will operate normally between the Kimball and Merchandise Mart stations.
 
During this time, shuttle buses will replace rail service between the Merchandise Mart and the Clark/Lake station. Customers can use Orange, Green and Pink line trains to travel between Clark/Lake and other Loop stations. A shuttle train also will operate around the Loop, counterclockwise via the Outer Loop (Brown Line) tracks.
 
Customers can use the Red Line subway for alternate service to and from downtown. Free transfers between Red and Brown line trains can be made at the Belmont and Fullerton stations.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Service to and from US Cellular Field for Sox Home Opener

Traveling on CTA is a convenient option for baseball fans attending games at U.S. Cellular Field all season long. The White Sox home opener is Monday, April 5 at 1:05 p.m. as they take on the Cleveland Indians.
 
The Red Line provides direct service to the accessible Sox-35th station, just steps from the ballpark. Red Line trains operate between Howard and 95th Street. Free connections can be made from Purple and Yellow Line trains at Howard; and from all elevated lines serving the Loop or from Brown Line trains at Belmont and Fullerton.
 
In addition to the Red Line, the Green Line also provides a convenient travel option. The accessible Green Line station at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT is a few blocks east of the park. Fans can walk to the ballpark or transfer to #35 35th buses, which stop at the park.
 

UPDATE: #19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Saturday, April 3 at 7 p.m. – Charlotte Bobcats versus Bulls
  • Sunday, April 4 at 2 p.m. – Calgary Flames versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. – Milwaukee Bucks versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. – St. Louis Blues versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m. – Cleveland Cavaliers versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning
90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

#10 Museum of Science & Industry Hours Extended for Spring Break

Service hours for the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route have been extended until Sunday, April 11, to accommodate the Spring Break hours at the museum. 
 
Weekdays
On weekdays, buses headed to the museum will operate approximately every 20 minutes from 8:55 a.m. until 4:35 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 9:40 a.m. until 6:40 p.m.
 
Saturdays
Buses heading to the museum will operate every 20 minutes from 8:55 a.m. until
4:35 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from 9:40 a.m. until 6:40 p.m.
 
Sundays
Buses heading to the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately
10:35 a.m. until 4:25 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 11:10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Bridge Repairs Detour #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #125 Water Tower Express Buses

Currently in effect until 7 a.m. Friday, April 2, the Wells Street Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River is closed to all traffic due to repair work.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Wells to Kinzie then operating via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #125 Water Tower Express buses are operating over the regular route along Wells to Kinzie then traveling via Kinzie, LaSalle to Wacker and resuming the regular route west on Wacker past Wells. Northbound #125 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Buses Return to Regular Routing Following Completion of Jackson Viaduct Work

The Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker has reopened following the completion of renovation work to the viaduct, bridge and sidewalk. As a result of the bridge re-opening, 10 CTA bus routes have returned to their previous routing and several bus stops that were temporarily relocated or eliminated will be restored to their original locations. The reroutes and bus stop changes had been in place since June 2009.
 
Through the remainder of the week, CTA personnel will be deployed during rush periods to provide information to customers.
 
The following CTA bus routes will return to their previous routes, with boarding locations at Union Station changed for most routes:

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, several streets in the downtown area have been closed or reconfigured until Monday, April 2, 2012. As a result of these closures and reconfigurations, the following changes in service along three CTA bus routes currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
The eastbound lanes of Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton have been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only. As a result, the southbound near side bus stop at Van Buren/Canal served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses has been relocated to a far side stop. 
 
#121 Union Wacker Express
Lower Wacker Drive between Harrison and Randolph is closed to all traffic due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project. During this time #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are being detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to Randolph then are taking the exit ramp to Upper Randolph and traveling via Randolph, Clinton to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
#124 Navy Pier
The eastbound lanes of Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton have been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only.
 
Westbound #124 Navy Pier buses are traveling over the regular route along Clinton past Van Buren to Harrison then are operating via Harrison to Canal and resuming the regular route north on Canal. Eastbound #124 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #77 Belmont Bus Stop at Belmont/Leavitt

Currently in effect the eastbound near side stop at Belmont/Leavitt served by #77 Belmont buses temporarily has been removed from service until Thursday, April 8, due to the demolition of a nearby building.
 

Restoration of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Until further notice, southbound #29 State buses have resumed making stops at the temporarily reinstated far side stop at State/Pershing, due to the delay of an underground construction project.
 

#53A South Pulaski Bus Stop at Pulaski/83rd Street Temporarily Relocated

Effective at the start of service on Friday, April 2 until Friday, May 7, the northbound near side stop at Pulaski/83rd Street served by #53A South Pulaski buses temporarily will be relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

#126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Peoria Reinstated

Effective at the start of service on Friday, April 2, eastbound #126 Jackson buses will resume making stops at the far side bus stop at Jackson/Peoria. This bus stop temporarily was removed from service to allow crews to reconstruct the nearby sidewalk and curb.
 

Other Changes to Bus Stops Effective Friday, April 2

The following bus stop changes will go into effect at the start of service on Friday,
April 2:
 
#9 Ashland
The northbound near side stop at Ashland/School served by #9 Ashland buses will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#12 Roosevelt
The westbound far side stop at Roosevelt/Sacramento served by #12 Roosevelt buses will be relocated to a near side stop.
 
#29 State
The southbound near side stop at State/45th Street served by #29 State buses will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#44 Wallace
The southbound near side stop located at Canal/24th Street served by #44 Wallace buses will be relocated to a mid-block stop between 23rd Street and 24th Street.
 

Delays Expected along the #18 16th/18th Route on Friday

On Friday, April 2 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the Catholic Parishes of Pilsen’s Via Crucis Viviente Religious Procession is scheduled to proceed along 18th Street between Union and Damen. During this time, #18 16th/18th buses may experience delays and if necessary, may need to be rerouted to adjacent streets. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Street Reconstruction Work Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

From 5 a.m. Monday, April 5 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, Lombard Avenue between Lake and South Boulevard will be closed to all traffic due to street reconstruction work.
 
Southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will operate over the regular route along Lake to Lombard before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will depart from Lake/Lombard and travel east on Lake to Humphrey then will operate via Humphrey to South Boulevard and then resume the regular route west on South Boulevard past Lombard.
 

Street Resurfacing Project Detours #17 Westchester Buses

From 6 a.m. Monday, April 5 until 6 a.m. Monday, May 10, Westchester Boulevard between Roosevelt and Canterbury will be closed to all traffic due to a street resurfacing project.
 
Westbound #17 Westchester buses will travel over the regular route along Westchester to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, Mannheim, Canterbury to Balmoral before turning to begin eastbound service. Eastbound #17 buses will depart from Canterbury/Balmoral and travel north on Balmoral over the regular route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday, April 6

The following bus stop changes will go into effect at the start of service on Tuesday, April 6:
 
#152 Addison
The eastbound near side stop at Addison/Central served by #152 Addison buses will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#155 Devon
The westbound near side stop at Devon/Rockwell served by #155 Devon buses will be relocated to a far side stop.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses temporarily has been removed from service until Friday, April 30, due to construction.
 

Sewer Construction Work Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, May 14, Montrose Avenue between Paulina and Greenview is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are traveling over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then operating via Damen, Wilson and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson past Clark. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, the southbound curb lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop on LaSalle between Lake and Wacker

Due to construction work the northbound mid-block stop on LaSalle between Lake and (upper) Wacker has been removed from service until Friday, June 18. This stop is served by #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express and #156 LaSalle buses.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses temporarily have been removed from service due rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroute Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work.
 
Southbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses temporarily will be removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses from either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
