Jackson Blvd. viaduct and bridge closure bus reroutes

Bus reroutes (overview)

Beginning at 9:30am, Monday, June 1, 2009, the City of Chicago will temporarily close Jackson Blvd. between Canal Street and Wacker Drive to rebuild the viaduct over Union Station's south passenger platforms and tracks and repair the Jackson Blvd. bridge and sidewalk. Jackson Blvd. is expected to be closed until April 2010.

As a result, all buses that travel east over the Jackson Blvd. viaduct and bridge will be rerouted. In addition, the southbound reverse-flow lane on Canal Street will be temporarily discontinued and boarding at the bus stop on the west side of Canal in front of Union Station will be temporarily eliminated.

As a result of these street closures, the following 12 bus routes will be rerouted, with boarding locations at Union Station changed for 9 of the 12 routes:

Note: to improve service and travel times in the Loop area affected by the reconstruction of the Jackson Blvd. viaduct, the following routes will not stop at the "near-side" stop on Canal before Monroe: #38 Ogden/Taylor, #60 Blue Island, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM only), #130 Museum Campus, #157 Streeterville. These routes will continue to operate north along Canal, making all other stops.
