Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning November 23 - 26

Note: All CTA bus and rail service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23.

Thanksgiving Parade Reroutes CTA Buses Thursday
The Chicago Transit Authority will detour 16 bus routes off State Street and adjacent downtown streets around the State Street Thanksgiving Day Parade, Thursday, November 23. The parade will start at 8:30 a.m. and proceed north on State from Congress to Randolph. State will be closed from Van Buren to Wacker until approximately 1 p.m.

CTA will detour buses operating in the area of the parade beginning in the early morning. Customers should allow extra travel time.

The affected routes are the #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #22 Clark, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan.

Northwest Highway Closed for Edison Park Turkey Trot
Northwest Highway will be closed from Devon to Overhill from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 23. #68 Northwest Highway buses will be rerouted around the race in both directions via Northwest Highway to Devon, Canfield, Ozark, back to Northwest Highway, then resume their regular route.

Holiday Train Brightens Blue and Pink Line Travel Over Weekend
The festive Holiday Train will brighten the Loop elevated, Blue and Pink lines between approximately 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, November 24, Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26.

The train will make stops at all stations on the Loop elevated and along the Blue and Pink lines.

Ten CTA Buses Detoured Off Washington for Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday
Washington will be closed between Dearborn and Clark, and Clark will be closed between Washington and Randolph for the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Daley Plaza from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, November 24. #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #X20 Washington/Madison Express, #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #127 Madison/Roosevelt Circulator and #157 Streeterville buses will be rerouted to adjacent streets.

In addition, the CTA Holiday Train will roll into the Loop at approximately 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, November 24 in time for the lighting of the holiday tree. Customers paying regular fares are invited to ride the train, which will make stops at all nine Loop elevated stations along Wells, Van Buren, Wabash and Lake.

Museum of Science & Industry Seasonal Service Begins
CTA's #10 Museum of Science & Industry, which normally operates year-round on weekends and holidays only, will run special seasonal weekday service from Thanksgiving Day, November 23 until January 1 (except Christmas Day). Buses will operate weekdays every 15 to 30 minutes from Michigan and Delaware. Also during seasonal service, buses will operate more frequently on weekends, operating every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes.

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Saturday
A two-phase single track will be in effect between the 63rd and 79th stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 25 until 5 a.m. Sunday, November 26.

From 10 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the 63rd and 69th stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the 63rd station must board on the east side of the platform.

From 1 a.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the 63rd and 79th stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the 63rd and 69th stations must board on the east side of the platform.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Sunday
A two-phase single track will be in effect between Roosevelt and Sox-35th stations from 9 p.m. Sunday, November 26 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 27.

From 9 p.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. Monday, the single track will be in effect between the Roosevelt and Cermak-Chinatown stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Cermak-Chinatown station must board on the east side of the platform.

From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Monday, the single track will be in effect between the Cermak-Chinatown and Sox-35th stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Cermak-Chinatown station must board on the east side of the platform.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between the Garfield and 63rd stations from 11 p.m. Monday, November 27 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 28 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday night. During the Monday single track, north and southbound customers boarding at the Garfield station must board on the west side of the platform. During the Tuesday single track, north and southbound customers boarding the Garfield station must board on the east side of the platform.
