The Chicago Transit Authority has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2006 fiscal year budget book from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This is the sixteenth consecutive year the CTA has won the GFOA's highest award.

"We are proud to be recognized for preparing a budget document that conveys our financial position clearly and concisely," said CTA President Frank Kruesi. ?The CTA's 2006 budget book provides a summary of recent accomplishments as well as future initiatives."

To receive the award, a government entity must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and a communications device.

?I commend the CTA's budget and finance staff for their fine work in producing an award-winning document," said Chicago Transit Board Chairman Carole Brown. ?This award is recognition of the effort staff puts into providing quality service in every department throughout the agency."

CTA's 2006 budget book clearly outlines long-term financial policies; provides a summary of major revenues, expenditures and other financing resources; describes activities and services carried out by CTA departments; and effectively communicates significant budgetary issues and trends.

GFOA is the professional association of state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada, and has served the public finance profession since 1906. The association's nearly 14,000 members are dedicated to the sound management of government financial resources.
