June 22, 2020

Masks, hand sanitizer and travel tips part of agency efforts to promote a healthy environment

As part of its ongoing efforts to welcome riders back to public transit, the CTA is distributing free “Travel Healthy” kits to customers this week.

Featuring a 2 oz. bottle of hand sanitizer, a reusable cloth mask and a healthy riding tips guide, the Travel Healthy kits will be available at several of CTA’s highest-ridership rail stations and bus terminals, starting Tuesday, June 23.Sample CTA Travel Healthy kit featuring a reusable cloth mask, hand sanitizer and essential travel tips

“As the city reopens and CTA welcomes customers back, we want to encourage everyone to continue to follow the healthy habits we’ve all learned since mid-March,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “Wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer are two simple and effective ways to help keep yourself and your fellow customers healthy.”

The Travel Healthy kits are the latest of many efforts by CTA to provide the healthiest, most comfortable environment for CTA customers. Over the last several weeks, CTA has implemented a number of practices to benefit customers, including: bus crowding management; bus and trains capacity limits (15 customers on a standard 40-foot bus; 22 customers on a 60-foot articulated bus and per rail car); and a new ridership dashboard providing an overview of available capacity for each of CTA’s 127 bus routes, by hour.

Also, CTA continues with one of the most rigorous cleaning regimens of any U.S transit agencies. Buses and trains are cleaned before service and while in service, and receive regular deep cleanings of their interiors. New technologies including electrostatic sprayers and antimicrobial coatings are being used to further enhance cleaning and disinfection. Rail stations are cleaned daily, are regularly power washed.

The Travel Healthy kits will be available between 8-10 a.m. at the following locations:
