CTA Service Guide for the 2012 Pride Parade

New parade routing this year allows access to parade from six CTA stations
 
The Chicago Transit Authority offers convenient service for those attending the 2012 Chicago Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24. The parade has a new route this year, which will provide spectators with easy access to more of the route from more stations. In addition, during the parade, reroutes will be in effect along eight bus routes.
 
To avoid crowded areas like Belmont, attendees are advised to consider viewing the parade from areas like Broadway, south of Montrose—a short walk from the Wilson and Sheridan stations on the Red Line. The Wellington or Diversey stations on the Brown Line also offer convenient access to view the parade. For more information, tips and a map and information, visit: transitchicago.com/prideparade.
 
Beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, parade participants will begin assembling on Montrose Avenue between Clark and Broadway, Broadway between Montrose and Wilson and Sheridan Road between Montrose and Sunnyside. The parade will step-off at noon from Montrose/Broadway.
 

Rail Service

Additional rail service will be provided to accommodate the anticipated increase in ridership. Following the parade, customers are also encouraged to consider making their return trips from stations other than Belmont.
 
  • Brown Line: longer trains will operate from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Trains will operate every 8-10 minutes from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
  • Red Line: longer trains will operate until 11 p.m. From 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., trains will operate approximately every 8-10 minutes.
  • Blue Line: longer trains will operate from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
 

Bus Service

From 11 a.m. until approximately 6:30 p.m., the following eight bus routes will be detoured as a result of several street closures: #8 Halsted, #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #76 Diversey, #77 Belmont, #78 Montrose, #151 Sheridan and #152 Addison.
 
#8 Halsted
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel to Halsted/Fullerton before turning to begin southbound service. From Halsted/Fullerton, southbound #8 buses will travel via Fullerton, Sheffield, Webster to Halsted and resume the regular route.
 
#22 Clark
Southbound #22 Clark buses will operate over the regular route along Clark to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, Armitage to Clark and resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
#36 Broadway
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Broadway to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, Clark, Halsted, Armitage to Clark and resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
#76 Diversey
Eastbound #76 Diversey buses will operate to Diversey/Racine before turning to begin westbound service. From Diversey/Sheffield, westbound #76 buses will travel west on Diversey over the regular route.
 
#77 Belmont
Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will travel to Belmont/Racine before turning to begin westbound service. From Belmont/Sheffield, westbound #77 buses will travel west on Belmont over the regular route.
 
#78 Montrose
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses will operate to Wilson/Marine before turning to begin westbound service. From Lawrence/Marine, westbound #78 buses will travel west on Lawrence to Broadway then will operate via Broadway to Wilson and resume the regular route.
 
#151 Sheridan
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Sheridan to Belmont then will operate via Belmont, Outer Lake Shore Drive, Fullerton to Stockton and resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
#151 Sheridan (Shortliner to Belmont//Halsted Only)
Northbound #151 will operate over the regular route along Stockton to Fullerton then will travel via Fullerton, Outer Lake Shore Drive, Belmont, Sheridan, Inner Lake Shore Drive, West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Addison before beginning southbound service.
 
From Inner Lake Shore Drive/Addison, southbound #151 buses will continue south on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Belmont then will operate via Outer Lake Shore Drive, Fullerton to Stockton and resume the regular route.
 
#152 Addison
Eastbound #152 Addison buses will travel over the regular route to Addison/Clark before turning to begin westbound service. From Clark/Addison, westbound #152 buses will travel west on Addison over the regular route.
 

Fare Information

CTA recommends customers attending the parade purchase their farecards or Visitor Passes in advance with enough value for their return trips later in the day. This will help to decrease travel time and reduce lines.
 
Vending machines are available at every 'L' station, and many have Express Vending Machines that accept credit cards. Customers can also buy pre-loaded cards and passes at hundreds of retail locations throughout the city.
 
Bus customers who use CTA fare media pay $2.00 to ride. For rail customers or customers who pay cash on the bus, the fare is $2.25. Customers who use CTA fare media may transfer for a 25 cent fee. Transfers are not available for customers paying fares in cash.
