Extra service on the CTA Red Line and additional Customer Assistants at several Loop 'L' stations will be provided for spectators attending the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Columbus Drive in Grant Park Saturday, March 16. The parade is scheduled to begin at noon, proceeding north on Columbus from Balbo to Monroe.
Construction on both sides of Michigan continues to block Jackson Boulevard east of State, so pedestrians are urged to use viaducts across the Metra Electric tracks at Randolph, Monroe, Van Buren or Harrison to reach viewing locations along Columbus.
Red and Blue Line riders might consider using the Van Buren exit from each of the Jackson stations and walking east on Van Buren, where there is a pedestrian bridge between Michigan and Columbus. Red Line riders can also walk east to Grant Park from the Harrison station. Brown and Orange Line riders can use the Library-State/Van Buren 'L' station and proceed east on Van Buren. Green Line riders can use the Randolph/Wabash station, where they can walk east on Randolph through Bi-Centennial Plaza to reach the parade area.
Parade participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo around 7:30 a.m., detouring three CTA bus routes that usually operate on Columbus over to Michigan between Roosevelt and Balbo. The affected routes are the #6 Jeffery Express, #10 Museum of Science and Industryand #146 Marine/Michigan Express.
