Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with CTA

CTA’s trains and buses are the best and most affordable ways to get to various sporting events, concerts, festivals, El Grito Chicago in Grant Park and the Mexican Independence Day Parade in Little Village

Ride with CTA to all the exciting festivities happening around town. Customers can save money by purchasing an unlimited rides pass, either the 1-Day ($5) – far more economical and convenient than the price of gas and parking - or the 3-Day ($15) pass – a real budget-saving move.

Service for Upcoming Events

El Grito Chicago

Grant Park – Sat. 9/14 and Sun. 9/15 at 2 p.m.

Service:

  • Rail: All rail lines downtown will get you access to the event.
    • Loop Elevated: Exit at either Washington/Wabash or Adams/Wabash
    • Red and Blue Lines: Exit at Jackson and walk a couple blocks east

26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade

Little Village, 26th Street from Albany to Kostner – Sun. 9/15 at 12 p.m.

Service:

  • Rail: Take the Pink Line and exit at the Kostner, Pulaski, Central Park and Kedzie stations.
  • Bus: The following bus routes will be rerouted, but they will provide the closest service to the parade:
    • #52 Kedzie
    • #53 Pulaski
    • #60 Blue Island/26th
    • #82 Kimball-Homan

South Chicago Mexican Patriotic Parade

Commercial Ave: 87th Street to 100th Street – Sun. 9/15 at 1 p.m.

Service:

  • Bus: The following bus routes in the area will be rerouted:
    • #30 South Chicago
    • #71 71st/South Shore
    • #87 87th
    • #95 95th

Martin Stadium in Evanston

The Purple Line will provide the closest access to the stadium.

  • Eastern Illinois Panthers vs. Northwestern Wildcats – Sat. 9/14 at 6:30 p.m.

Soldier Field

Service on the #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express route

  • New York Red Bulls vs. Chicago Fire FC – Sat. 9/14 at 7:30 p.m.

Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island

Service on the #146 Inner Lake Shore/Michigan Express route

  • Falling In Reverse – Tue. 9/17 at 5:45 p.m.

Wrigley Field

  • Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago Cubs – Mon. 9/16 and Tue. 9/17 at 6:40 p.m., Wed. 9/18 at 1:20 p.m.

Service:

  • Red Line: The Addison station is located just a half block east of Wrigley Field.
  • Purple Line (New!): Before weeknight games only, Loop-bound Purple Line Express trains will stop at the Addison station.
  • Yellow Line: Take the Yellow Line and transfer at Howard to the Red Line; continue to Addison station. To accommodate fans returning home, the Yellow Line will run for an hour later from Howard – until midnight – for all night games at Wrigley Field.
  • #152 Addison:  The #152 route will provide additional service on Cubs game days, with more frequent service two hours before and one hour after all games.
  • #80 Irving Park: The #80 route will provide additional service before the games, timed to meet the inbound UP-NW Metra trains at Irving Park.
  • Adjacent bus routes: Several CTA bus routes serve the Wrigley Field area, including:
  • #8 Halsted
  • #22 Clark
  • #36 Broadway
  • #151 Sheridan

Guaranteed Rate Field

  • Oakland Athletics vs. White Sox – Fri. 9/13 at 6:40 p.m., Sat. 9/14 at 6:10 p.m. and Sun. 9/15 at 1:10 p.m.

Service:

  • Red Line: Guaranteed Rate Field is just one block west of the Sox-35th station.
  • Green Line: The 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station is just three blocks east of the ballpark.
  • #35 31st/35th: The #35 route (which connects with Orange and Green lines) is the main bus route providing service to the stadium and operates during all game times.
  • Adjacent bus routes: Several CTA bus routes serve the ballpark area, including:
    • #1 Bronzeville/Union Station (during Monday – Friday rush periods only)
    • #4 Cottage Grove
    • #24 Wentworth
    • #29 State (which runs Monday – Friday to 8:30 p.m.)
    • #31 31st (which runs Monday – Friday to 7 p.m.)
    • #39 Pershing (which connects with Orange and Green lines)
    • #44 Wallace/Racine

Weekend Work to Temporarily Impact Pink Line Service

  • Between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sat. 9/14, rail service on the Pink Line will operate between 54th/Cermak and Polk, then to Racine Blue Line for connecting Blue Line train service to/from downtown. (More details)
  • For service to downtown from Pink Line stations between 54th/Cermak and Polk, take a Pink Line train toward the Loop and stay on board until the train reaches Racine on the Blue Line, where you can transfer to continuing Blue Line service into downtown.
  • For service from downtown to Pink Line stations between Polk and 54th/Cermak, take a Blue Line train toward Forest Park to Racine and transfer to a Pink Line train toward 54th/Cermak.
  • For service to/from Ashland, Morgan or Clinton stations, use Blue Line service between Racine and Clark/Lake, and Green Line service.
    • Connecting service between the Pink Line and Ashland station is also available via the #9 Ashland bus – use Polk Pink Line station and walk 1-1/2 blocks between the station and Ashland Ave (transfer charge applies).
  • This service change is due to construction on the new Damen Green Line station.

Weekend Work to Temporarily Impact Brown Line Service

  • Between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sun. 9/15, Kimball-bound trains will not stop at the Diversey Brown Line station. (More details)
  • For Kimball-bound service to this station, take a Kimball-bound train to the Wellington station and transfer to a Loop-bound train back to Diversey.
  • For Kimball-bound service from this station, take a Loop-bound train to Fullerton and transfer to a Kimball-bound train.
  • Fullerton Station: Board Kimball-bound Brown Line trains on the Red Line side of the Howard- and Kimball-bound platform.
  • Service changes are due to track maintenance being done on the Brown Line.
