Starting this week, commuting around the city just got easier with the launch of the Loop Link, a major modernization of the downtown transportation network that will make it easier, safer and more reliable for commuters to travel to and through the downtown area. Loop Link will provide a balanced separation of CTA bus, bike and regular traffic with dedicated lanes on Washington, Madison, Clinton and Canal. The new configuration will improve reliability and speed for six CTA bus routes that travel the corridor and extend benefits to neighborhoods throughout the city where these routes originate. The CTA reminds customers that new Ashland and Western Express route service will begin on Monday, December 21, providing customers a faster service alternative to local bus service on two of Chicago’s busiest streets. The CTA is notifying customers of separate weekend track maintenance and construction projects that will affect Red Line service and of upcoming bus service changes associated with the launch of Loop Link and Ashland and Western Express routes. Mayor Rahm Emanuel, CDOT, and CTA today announced that CTA bus service on The Loop Link – a major modernization of the downtown transportation network – will begin Sunday, December 20th, with the opening of the red CTA bus lanes and raised boarding platforms on Madison and Washington Streets. In addition, all general traffic lanes will be open for cars on those two major downtown streets.
