This artwork is a “functional sculpture” (furniture) fabricated of cast concrete with blue terrazzo embellishments. The various pieces are attached to the outdoor plaza with galvanized steel supports.
With these extravagant and unique pieces, the artist team of Soto and Sullivan consolidate their affinity to design-build processes, practicality, function and their desire to provide gathering spaces for relaxation and reflection. The furniture represents architectural forms and shapes that celebrate the culture and heritage of the adjacent communities that include Bucktown, Wicker Park and Humboldt Park.
