2018, Arts in Transit
By way of LED screens mounted to the north face of the elevated track structure across Damen Avenue, Soundtrack gives visual form to invisible motion at play within the neighborhood.
At all hours, the artwork measures, translates and displays the movement of trains and footsteps on the platform as well as vibrations caused by wind and ambient sounds. Geophone sensors, devices used by geologists to study seismic activity, attached to the platform collect data which is processed through a computer and displayed as visual patterns of light, visible to pedestrians and drivers for several blocks from the station.
