Weekend Work to Temporarily Affect Parts of Red, Green, Pink and Orange Line Service (UPDATED)

Weekend work will affect four rail lines in the downtown area at various times this weekend. The CTA encourages Red, Green, Pink and Orange line customers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Red Line Service

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, January 30 and continuing through 6 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 95th-boundRed Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations due to subway maintenance work. Howard-bound Red Line service will not be affected and will operate normally in the State Street subway.

During this time, rerouted 95th-bound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt (elevated). The Merchandise Mart station is available for exit only via stairway (non-accessible) from approximately 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

To Downtown

Customers traveling downtown via 95th-bound Red Line service can exit at any elevated station along Lake or Wabash. Customers who require access to an elevator will need to exit at Clark/Lake.

From Downtown

Customers in the downtown area can access 95th-bound Red Line trains by walking one block east of State Street and board at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Those needing access to an elevator will need to board at Clark/Lake.

At North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand

Customers traveling southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a Howard-bound train and exit at Fullerton to board 95th-bound Red Line trains that will travel on elevated tracks. Customers traveling on 95th-bound trains wishing to exit at the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and make a free transfer (farecard required) to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a Howard-bound Red Line train. 

Similar work is tentatively scheduled for next weekend, which will require Howard-bound Red Line trains to operate on the elevated tracks between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations beginning 10 p.m. Friday, February 6 until 6 a.m. Sunday, February 8.

Green Line Service

(Updated 1/30/2015, 4:15 p.m.)

Beginning 1:40 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, January 31,  Green Line service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations will be temporarily suspended as crews continue work associated with the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station.

During this time, free bus shuttles will be operate in both directions between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations as well as free transfers back into those rail stations. Customers are encouraged to allow extra travel time.

Pink and Orange Line Service

(Updated 1/30/2015, 4:20 p.m.)

Beginning 4 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, Pink  and Orange line trains will be rerouted to the Outer Loop tracks as crews perform maintenance work on the Loop Elevated structure.

During this time, customers in the Loop wishing to access Pink or Orange line trains will need to board from the Outer Loop platform, normally served by the Brown Line.

Pink Line trains entering the Loop will operate in reverse and serve Washington/Wells, Quincy, LaSalle/Van Buren, Harold Washington Library, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake and then Clark/Lake.

Orange Line trains entering the Loop will operate in reverse and serve Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Washington/Wells, Quincy, LaSalle/Van Buren and then Harold Washington Library.
