Weekend Red Line Subway Trains to Reroute to Elevated Tracks Between Cermak-Chinatown & Fullerton

Northbound service on the Red Line between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19 until 5 a.m. Friday, June 20. Elevated stations are located within a block of Red Line subway stations in the Loop. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Please note that the reroute time has been adjusted from previous weeks due to the Cubs-Sox Crosstown Series this weekend. Red Line trains will operate normally through the subway before and after games throughout the weekend for the convenience of customers.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations. Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. Southbound Red Line service is not affected throughout the weekend.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. Trains will then operate to Fullerton to resume regular routing. Please note: the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line stains at the State/Lake elevated station.

Northbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train.

This Weekend Service on the Red Line between the Fullerton station and Cermak-Chinatown station will be rerouted in both directions from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Saturday, June 21 until 3 p.m. Sunday, June 22.

Please note that trains will not be rerouted Friday night as on previous weekends due to the Cubs-Sox Crosstown Series this weekend. Red Line trains will operate normally through the subway before and after games throughout the weekend for the convenience of customers.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations. Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Sunday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.

Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 3 p.m. Sunday. In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Harrison/State, Jackson/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash where customers may board Red Line trains.

Temporarily suspending Red Line service from Fullerton to Cermak-Chinatown will allow construction and maintenance crews to work without train traffic or live rail.
