Weekend Green Line Service Temporarily Suspended between the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and Garfield Stations

October 18, 2012
Shuttle bus service will be provided and serve affected stations

Rail service will be temporarily suspended along the South branch of the Green Line between the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and Garfield stations from 10 p.m. Friday, October 19 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 22, due to crews performing station renewal work at the Indiana, 47th Street and 51st Street stations.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT, Indiana, 43rd Street, 47th Street, 51st Street and Garfield stations. Both the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and Garfield stations are accessible to customers with disabilities. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Green Line trains will operate normally between Harlem/Lake and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT, and between the Garfield station and the Ashland/63rd and Cottage Grove terminals.

Work being performed at these stations is part of the CTA’s Station Renewal program, which is designed to provide a facelift to 100 CTA rail stations. Work crews – comprised of different trade workers called the ‘Renew Crew’ – focus on providing repairs in a more efficient way, creating a cleaner, brighter and more appealing station that improves the customer travel experience.

Work done at each station is determined by the station’s specific needs and configurations, but can include such work as painting, new lighting, repairs, power washing walls and ceilings, replacing signs and landscaping.

More details on the work being performed at the Indiana, 47th Street and 51st Street Green Line stations is available on the project web page: http://www.transitchicago.com/stationrenewal/.

Trains will resume operating normally between the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and Garfield stations after 4 a.m. on Monday, October 22.
