10- and 20-Transit Card Packs to be Replaced by $10 and $20 Transit Cards January 1

The Chicago Transit Authority is reminding customers that December 31, 2007 is the last day of the extended fee waiver period for the purchase of Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus.

As announced in November, going forward the $5 fee will be waived for first time Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus users who register their cards. A $5 fee still will be charged for replacement cards and to customers who elect not to register.

In addition, beginning January 1, 2008, based on customer feedback and as part of CTA's continued efforts to implement operational efficiencies, the agency will discontinue the sale of Single Ride Transit Card 10-packs. Transit Cards valued at $10 or $20 will be available for purchase instead.

Also, Reduced-Fare Transit Card 20-packs will now be sold as a two-card pack at the current price of $15.30 per pack. Value can be added to any of these cards at CTA rail stations.

Information on where to purchase and add value to CTA fare media and Chicago Cards is available on the fares page of CTA's web site at www.transitchicago.com.

Currently more than 200 non-CTA outlets such as Currency Exchanges, Jewel-Osco and Dominick's Finer Food stores offer CTA fare media for purchase, including the Chicago Card. Customers may also purchase fare media at CTA's main office at 567 West Lake Street from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., via mail, online at CTA's web site or by calling CTA Customer Service at 1-888-968-7282 (1-888 YOUR CTA).
