Planned project work to impact Red, Blue, Green and Pink Line Service

No matter your plans, CTA is the most convenient and affordable way to get to the weekend fun. We recommend allowing plenty of travel time and purchasing fares and unlimited-ride passes in advance. More information about purchasing fares is below.

Event service/extra service

United Center  

Extra service on the #19 United Center Express and #50 Damen routes for the following events:

  • Charlotte Hornets vs. Chicago Bulls – Fri. 12/13 at 7 p.m.
  • Los Angeles Clippers vs. Chicago Bulls – Sat. 12/14 at 7 p.m.
  • Minnesota Wild vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Sun. 12/15 at 6 p.m.
  • Colorado Avalanche vs. Chicago Blackhawks – Wed. 12/18 at 7p.m.

Weekend Project Work to Impact Red, Blue, Green, and Pink Line Service


CTA encourages customers to plan their trip beforehand and allow for extra travel time.

Red Line

  • Howard-bound Red Line trains will bypass stations from Lawrence through Jarvis beginning 10 p.m. Fri. 12/13 until 4 a.m. Mon. 12/16 - More details here
  • Stations impacted: Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, Morse and Jarvis
    • For service to these stations, take a Howard-bound train to Howard and transfer to a 95th-bound train
    • For service from these stations, take a 95th-bound train to Wilson and transfer to a Howard-bound train
  • Sheridan and Wilson stations: Howard-bound trains will stop at their normal platform.
    • At Sheridan, board/exit trains on the outer side of the platform
    • At Wilson, board/exit trains on the outer/Purple Line side of the Howard-/Linden-bound platform
  • Shuttle buses will provide service toward Howard between Wilson and Howard, stopping along Broadway or Sheridan Road at the corner nearest the affected Red Line station
  • Howard-bound Red Line customers can transfer to the shuttle bus at Wilson
  • Crews will be performing track improvements in preparation of the Red Purple Modernization Project

Blue Line 

  • Chicago station closed 10 p.m. Fri. 12/13 until 4 a.m. Mon. 12/16 – More details here
  • Free bus shuttle service will operate between Chicago and Grand stations
  • Customers are encouraged to use the nearby station at Grand or Division
  • Work at Chicago Station due to Your New Blue (YNB) program

Garfield Green Line Station Improvement Work

  • Ashland/63rd and Cottage Grove-bound trains to bypass Garfield from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fri. 12/13, and then again each day Mon. 12/16 through Thurs. 12/19
  • Bus shuttle service provided between Garfield and 51st stations
  • Construction to improve Garfield is part of the of the Garfield Gateway Project

Green/Pink Lines

  • From 2 a.m. on Sat. 12/14 to 4 a.m. Mon. 12/16 Green and Pink line trains will be impacted due to work being performed part of the FastTracks Program (details here)

Green Line:

  • Trains will operate between Harlem/Lake and Ashland, and between Ashland/63rd-Cottage Grove and the Loop
  • Trains to/from 63rd St. will operate clockwise around Inner Loop, on the side also used by Orange Line trains
  • Bus shuttle service provided between Ashland and Clark/Lake

Pink Line:

  • Trains will operate between 54th/Cermak and Ashland only
  • Bus shuttle service provided between Ashland and Clark/Lake

Fare Information

Customers can add unlimited ride passes (1-day, 3-day, 7-day and 30-day) or add money to their Ventra cards for pay-per-ride via the following ways: free Ventra app, rail station Ventra vending machines, online or at nearly 900 local retailers - for locations visit ventrachicago.com.

Single-ride tickets are also available for purchase for $3 ($5 at O’Hare) at all Ventra vending machines. Single-ride tickets include up to two transfers in two hours.

In a hurry? Ventra allows riders to use Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay, or any contactless credit or debit card, for pay-as-you-go rides ($2.25 for bus, $2.50 for train).
