Temporary Red Line Subway Closure Between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton Scheduled This Weekend

Weeknight Reroutes of Red Line Subway Trains to Elevated Continues

Service on the Red Line between Fullerton station and Cermak/Chinatown will be temporarily suspended in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday, April 11 until 3 a.m. Monday, April 14. North and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks throughout the weekend. Elevated stations are located within a block of Red Line subway stations in the Loop. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Saturday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 5:10 a.m. and on Sunday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.

Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 3 a.m. Monday. In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Harrison/State, Jackson/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash where customers may board Red Line trains.

Temporarily suspending Red Line service from Fullerton to Cermak/Chinatown will allow construction and maintenance crews to work without train traffic or live rail.

Next Week
Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton station and the Cermak/Chinatown station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on four nights next week from Monday, April 14 through Friday morning,
April 18.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Lake or Wabash streets on the Inner Loop track. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains on the southbound platform.

Customers traveling southbound to downtown should exit Red Line trains at any elevated station along Lake or Wabash.

Southbound customers who wish to exit at the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and exit to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train. Southbound customers are asked to allow extra travel time.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak/Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected.
