SOUTHBOUND CTA BUSES DETOURED OFF LASALLE FOUR MONTHS FOR DOWNTOWN LIGHTING PROJECT

August 5, 1999
08/05/99

Southbound CTA buses will be detoured from LaSalle to Clark Street between Wacker Drive and Adams Street for four months starting Tuesday, August 10, while traffic lanes on LaSalle are reduced for a Chicago Department of Transportation streetscape and lighting project. Northbound buses will continue using LaSalle.

Affected by the detour will be rush period #135 Wilson/LaSalle Express and #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses, and regular weekday service on the #156 LaSalle local route. After crossing the LaSalle Street bridge, all southbound buses will use one of two left-turn lanes at Wacker to go east to Clark and south to Adams before heading west to their regular destinations.

To keep bus traffic flowing as smoothly as possible on Clark, temporary new bus stops will be established on the north side of each intersection from Lake to Adams for the exclusive use of LaSalle Street buses. An additional temporary stop will be established westbound on Adams at LaSalle.

#22 Clark, #24 Wentworth, and afternoon rush period buses on the #129 West Loop/South Loop route, which already operate on Clark, will continue to use the existing bus stops on Clark on the south side of each intersection.

Flyers with details about the detour are being made available to LaSalle Street bus customers, and notices are being posted in all the affected buses. Since most CTA customers board LaSalle Street buses downtown for northbound trips only, the detour will affect them mainly when they alight buses on weekday mornings. They will continue to board their buses at regular stops on LaSalle for trips north.
