Reduced Farecard Customers Advised to Check Activation Date on Farecards

February 17, 2006
2/17/06

CTA is working with Currency Exchange distribution centers to retrieve approximately 700 packets of Reduced Farecards with incorrect activation dates that were mistakenly distributed to several of the outlets. The packets each include 20 single-ride Transit Cards.

The cards are encoded with a start date of March 1, 2006, and thus will not provide customers with entry to a bus or rail station prior to that date.

Although the erroneous shipment was identified quickly and immediate steps were taken to retrieve the cards, it is possible that some of these cards may have been sold to CTA customers. CTA is advising customers to check their cards for valid start dates.

If a customer discovers they have a Reduced Farecard with an incorrect date, that customer can exchange the card at the retail outlet where the card was purchased or at CTA headquarters at 567 W. Lake Street.

The invalid fare cards have the following serial numbers:

1228485001 ? 1228486000
