Red Line Subway Trains to Undergo Late Night Reroute to Elevated Tracks Between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown This Weekend and Next Week

Late night service on the Red Line between the Fullerton station and Cermak-Chinatown station will be temporarily rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks in order for crews to replace deteriorating rail ties on the following dates:

Northbound Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, February 20 until 9 a.m. Saturday, February 21. Northbound trains also will be rerouted to the elevated tracks each night from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, February 22 through Wednesday morning, February 25.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the 95th and Cermak-Chinatown stations and between the Fullerton and Howard stations.

Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Saturday from 12:50 a.m. to
5:10 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line trains at the State/Lake elevated station.

Northbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train.

Northbound customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

From 9 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, February 22, southbound trains will be rerouted to the elevated tracks between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations. Southbound trains also will be rerouted from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Wednesday, February 25 through Friday morning, February 27.

Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Lake or Wabash streets on the Inner Loop track.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains.

Southbound customers who wish to exit at the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and exit to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train. Southbound customers are asked to allow extra travel time.
