Northbound Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks for Weekend Work

Weeknight Reroutes of Red Line Subway Trains to Elevated Continues

Northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak-Chinatown station and the Fullerton station will reroute to the elevated tracks from noon, Saturday, May 3 until 3 a.m. Monday, May 5.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations. Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. Southbound Red Line service is not affected throughout the weekend.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. Trains will then operate to Fullerton to resume regular routing. Please note: the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to access northbound Red Line stains at the State/Lake elevated station.

Northbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Fullerton station and board a southbound Red Line train.

Weeknights Next WeekSouthbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton station and the Cermak-Chinatown station will reroute to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning Monday, May 5 through Friday morning, May 9.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak/Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected weeknights.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Please Note ? On Thursday, May 8, southbound Red Line trains will be routed down Wells and Van Buren in the Loop from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next day. Red Line trains will stop at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/VanBuren and Library Stations.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Lake or Wabash streets on the Inner Loop track except on Thursday night when they must use stations on Wells or VanBuren. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains.

Customers traveling southbound to downtown should exit Red Line trains at any elevated station along Lake or Wabash except on Thursday night when they should exit at any elevated station along Wells or VanBuren.

Southbound customers who wish to exit at the North/Clybourn, Clark/Division, Chicago or Grand stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and exit to the Lake Street Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train except on Thursday when they should travel to the Library elevated station and exit to the Jackson Red Line subway station to board a northbound Red Line train. This transfer could also be made between the elevated Roosevelt and subway Roosevelt stations. Southbound customers are asked to allow extra travel time.
