Route- and location-specific service alerts accessible to mobile and desktop users

The Chicago Transit Authority today announced a new bus service alert feature that will be available on the Bus Tracker site on Monday, March 2. The alerts will inform mobile or desktop users of any planned or unplanned events currently affecting service at a stop, along a route or across the entire system.

The agency also is reminding customers that the following 24 new routes will be activated on the Bus Tracker web site (www.ctabustracker.com), giving customers access to real-time service information for a total of 110 of CTA’s 153 bus routes:

  • #1 Indiana/Hyde Park
  • #8A South Halsted
  • #14 Jeffery Express
  • #15 Jeffery Local
  • #24 Wentworth
  • #28 Stony Island
  • #X28 Stony Island Express

CTA Information Specialists will be available at select locations to demonstrate how the Bus Tracker program and its features work on a mobile device.

With the new Bus Tracker feature, whether a customer is tracking one or multiple routes, the route- and location-specific alerts will appear at the top of the estimated arrival times and map display pages on Bus Tracker.

Each service alert headline will provide a brief synopsis of what service is currently affected. By clicking on the headline customers can access further information regarding route(s) affected, status and service details.

While the addition of the bus service alerts is an added convenience, when planning a trip on the CTA, customers are encouraged to visit the agency’s web site (www.transitchicago.com) for full details on all planned and unplanned events affecting bus and rail service.

CTA Bus Tracker is a web-based program that uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to provide customers with the locations and estimated arrival times of buses operating along activated bus routes.
