Morning Rush Service Starts at 5 a.m. to Replace Blue Line Subway Service

July 12, 2006
7/12/06

For Wednesday's rush hour, Blue Line service levels will be reduced so customers should consider alternatives or allow plenty of extra travel time.

Beginning at 5 a.m. through morning rush, Blue Line trains on the O'Hare branch will operate at 10 minute intervals from O'Hare to Grand making all stops. Every other Blue Line train operating from O'Hare will travel to Clark/Lake, allowing customers to more easily make bus and rail connections, or access the Loop. Announcements will be made identifying the destination of each train. Northbound and southbound service on the O'Hare branch will operate between O'Hare and Grand, or O'Hare and Clark/Lake.

CTA will provide bus shuttle service in both directions as a substitute for Blue Line subway service between Grand and Harrison making all stops at Blue Line subway stations.

Blue Line trains on the Forest Park branch will operate in both directions between Forest Park and Jackson on 10 minute intervals.

Blue Line trains operating on the 54th/Cermak branch will operate as scheduled every 30 minutes between 54th/Cermak and Jackson.

CTA will have additional personnel available to assist customers throughout the morning rush.

Following morning rush, additional service details will be made available as finalized.

CTA crews are still working to make the repairs necessary in order to restore regular service to northbound Blue Line tracks near Grand Avenue following a derailment Tuesday evening. The crews have been working since yesterday evening to rerail and move the train and repair damaged rail and track.
