Main Entrance at Cermak-Chinatown Red Line Station Reopens

May 2, 2008

The main (north) entrance to the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station will reopen Friday evening at 8 p.m. CTA crews have rebuilt the stairway leading to the platform to repair damage caused during last week's truck accident.

"Although we are looking at ways to redesign the station entrance, for the convenience of customers, we wanted to restore access to the north entrance as quickly as possible," said CTA President Ron Huberman.

The escalator at the north entrance was badly damaged in the accident and CTA is still developing plans to replace the escalator and redesign the station entrance. Customers who want to use an escalator to access the platform should continue to use the auxiliary entrance on the south side of Cermak.
