August 22, 2007
08/22/07

Northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway will reroute to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 4 through Friday, September 7.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel northbound from downtown stations can access northbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets on the Outer Loop track. Customers who wish to travel northbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a southbound train and exit at Lake to board northbound Red Line trains on the elevated platform at State/Lake.

Weeknights to December either northbound or southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning to allow crews to replace deteriorated wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties and eliminate slow zones from Grand to Clark/Division.
