IMPROVEMENTS AFFECT ENTRANCES AT TWO BLUE LINE STATIONS

October 19, 2000
10/19/00Entrances at two stations on the Forest Park (Congress) Branch of the Blue Line will be affected by reconstruction to modernize the stations and reconfigure ramps from street level to the platforms to provide for accessibility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Work has already been completed to make both the Kedzie-Homan and UIC-Halsted stations accessible at one end. The entrances at the opposite end of each station will now be closed temporarily so that similar improvements can be made at those locations.

Starting at 10 a.m. Monday, October 23, the Kedzie entrance to the Kedzie-Homan station will be reopened and the Homan entrance will be closed. #52 Kedzie/California buses, which had been detoured to serve the Homan entrance since construction began in July, will now return to the regular route, stopping for the Blue Line station north and southbound on Kedzie.

With the closing of the Homan entrance, buses on the #82 Kimball-Homan route will be detoured to serve the Kedzie entrance. Northbound #82 buses will go east on Harrison, north on Kedzie, and west on Congress back to Homan. Southbound buses will turn east from Homan at Jackson, go south on Kedzie and return to Homan at Congress.

Starting at 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 30, the UIC-Halsted station entrance at Halsted (800 West) will be closed for reconstruction to provide accessible features similar to those available at the westernmost entrance to the station at Morgan (1000 West), which was reopened on September 24.

While the Halsted entrance is closed, customers can use the escalator and stairway entrance at Peoria (900 West) to connect to #8 Halsted buses on Halsted at either Harrison or Van Buren. #7 Harrison buses can be boarded on Harrison at either Peoria or Morgan.
