April 5, 2000

A new century of baseball is starting in Chicago, and CTA's Red Line will once again put fans within fly ball distance of Cubs action at Wrigley Field as well as White Sox games at Comiskey Park.

The Cubs open their Year 2000 home season Monday, April 10, with a 1:20 p.m. game against the Atlanta Braves. Whether fans are coming from the suburbs, other parts of the city or downtown, the easiest car-free way to reach Wrigley Field will be by taking a Red Line train to the station at Addison, which is just across Sheffield Avenue from the friendly confines.

The Red Line also serves Comiskey Park, at 35th and Shields, where the White Sox will host the Anaheim Angels for the first home game of the 2000 season on Friday, April 14, at 6:05 p.m. Here, too, the Red Line will be the ideal choice. The Sox-35th station is just across Wentworth Avenue from the ball park.

For Cubs fans, trains in the State Street subway downtown take only 15 to 17 minutes to reach the modern, fully accessible station at Addison. Travel time is about the same from the north terminal at Howard, where fans can connect from Purple or Yellow Line trains.

For White Sox fans, Red Line travel time from the State Street subway downtown to Sox-35th is only about 10 to 12 minutes, and from the south terminal at 95th, around 18 minutes.

Besides the Red Line, Wrigley Field is also served by accessible #22 Clark buses that operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard, and by #152 Addison buses that run east and west on Addison between Cumberland and Lake Shore. For night games starting May 2, CTA's #154 Wrigley Field Express buses will provide service from parking lots at Lane Tech and DeVry Institute near Addison and Western directly to the ball park.

Service to Comiskey Park is provided by accessible #35 35th buses, going east and west on 35th, which connect with accessible stations on both the Green and Orange Lines. On weekdays through early evening, #24 Wentworth buses serve Comiskey Park from Clark Street downtown, and from 79th via Vincennes, Wentworth and LaSalle.
