Slow Zone Work
Red Line Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks

Service on the Red Line between Fullerton station and Cermak/Chinatown will be temporarily suspended in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday, October 26 until 1 a.m. Monday, October 29. North and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks throughout the weekend. Elevated stations are located within a block of Red Line subway stations in the Loop. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Saturday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 5:10 a.m. and on Sunday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.

Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 1 a.m. Monday. In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Harrison/State, Jackson/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabashwhere customers may board Red Line trains.

Temporarily suspending Red Line service from Fullerton to Cermak/Chinatown will allow construction and maintenance crews to work without train traffic or live rail.

Next Week
Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton station and the Cermak/Chinatown station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on four nights next week from Monday, October 29 through Thursday, November 1.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Blue Line Service from Jefferson Park to Harlem Temporarily Suspended this Weekend for Slow Zone Work
Rail service between the Jefferson Park and Harlem stations on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line will be temporarily suspended on Friday, October 26 from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday, October 29 in order to replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes. Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the two stations. Extra travel time is advisable.

Other Events Affecting Service
Daytime Reroute at Fullerton Saturday

A reroute will be in effect on the Red and Brown lines at Fullerton station from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, October 27.

Southbound Red Line customers will board trains on the Brown Line side of the platform at Fullerton. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers will board trains on the southbound platform where southbound Red Line trains normally stop.

During the same hours, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Wellington. Northbound customers who wish to exit at Wellington should ride to Belmont and take a southbound train to Wellington. Northbound customers who wish to board at Wellington should take a southbound train to Fullerton and board a northbound train.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Southbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Reroute at Sheridan
Southbound Red Line trains will operate on the southbound Purple Express tracks at Sheridan from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 27 and again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day Monday, October 29 through Friday, November 2.

During these times southbound customers at Sheridan will board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of the platform.

CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Southbound Platform Out of Service at Red Line Howard Station This Weekend
The southbound platform at the Howard Red Line station will be temporarily out of service for construction work from 8 p.m. Friday, October 26 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 29. Customers must board trains on the northbound platform.

Late Night Single Tracks on Blue Line
Saturday — O'Hare Branch
From 1 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, a single track will be in effect between the Pulaski and Cicero stations on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line. Northbound customers boarding at Pulaski and Cicero must board on the southbound side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between the Belmont and Montrose stations on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line from
9 p.m. Saturday, October 27 until 9 a.m. Sunday, October 28. All customers at Belmont, Addison and Irving Park stations must board and exit trains on the southbound side of the platform.

Next Week — Forest Park Branch
A single track will be in effect between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line from 10 p.m. Monday, October 29 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 30. Southbound customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board on the northbound side of the platform.

From 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 30 until 4 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, a single track will be in effect between the Western and Kedzie-Homan stations. Southbound customers boarding at Western must board on the northbound side of the platform.

From 10 p.m. Wednesday, October 30 until 4 a.m. Thursday, November 1, a single track will be in effect between the Western and Racine stations. Southbound customers at Racine must board on the northbound side of the platform.

Daytime Reroute at Belmont Next Week
Southbound Red Line trains will temporarily reroute to the Brown Line tracks at Belmont from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Monday, October 29 through Friday, November 2. Southbound Red Line customers must board on the Brown Line side of the platform.

Buses Reroute for the Mobilization to Stop the War Procession on Saturday
The Chicago Transit Authority expects that up to 10 Loop bus routes that travel in the vicinity of the Mobilization to Stop the War Procession scheduled for Saturday,October 27 may be impacted with intermittent reroutes. The route of the procession is from Union Park at Ashland and Lake streets to Federal Plaza on Dearborn from2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Routes that travel in that vicinity include:

  • #8 Halsted
  • #9 Ashland
  • #20 Madison
  • #22 Clark
  • #36 Broadway
  • #60 Blue Island/26th
  • #62 Archer
  • #124 Navy Pier
  • #126 Jackson
  • #151 Sheridan

Buses Reroute for Block 37 Construction
State Street will be closed between Madison and Randolph for construction work from 9 p.m. on Friday, October 26 until
8 a.m. Saturday, October 27 and again from 9 p.m. Saturday, until 6 a.m. Monday, October 29.

Fourteen CTA bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets. Rerouting these bus routes away from construction activity will improve the reliability of CTA bus service in the area and create a more predictable flow of traffic for the duration of this phase of the project. The routes subject to temporary reroutes are:

  • #4 Cottage Grove
  • #6 Jackson Park Express
  • #10 Museum of Science & Industry
  • #20 Madison
  • #22 Clark
  • #29 State

CTA Provides Service for Bears versus Lions Game
The Chicago Bears host the Detroit Lions at Solder Field on Sunday, October 28at noon. The #12 Roosevelt, #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the game.

More frequent service will operate on the #12 and the #146 beginning at 10 a.m. #128 Soldier Field Express buses operate non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will operate from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for one hour.

The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required.

In addition, CTA will operate longer Orange and Green Line trains for customers traveling to and from Soldier Field. The station is at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium.

#19 United Center Express Serves Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks Games
The CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Bulls final home pre-season game on Thursday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. versus the Milwaukee Bucks and for the Blackhawks game versus the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Buses will leave every 12 minutes from Michigan and Superior starting two hours before game time until 30 minutes before the game begins. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.

Buses Reroute for Construction Projects
Construction projects throughout the city will cause temporary reroutes on the following CTA bus routes:

#47 47th Street
47th Street at Ashland will be closed from 7 a.m. each day until 3 p.m. each afternoon beginning Monday, October 29 through Thursday, November 15. Westbound #47 47th Street buses will travel over the regular route to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 51st, Damen then return to 47th and resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are not affected.

#66 Chicago
From 7 p.m. Friday, October 26 until 7 a.m. Saturday, October 27 Chicago Avenue will be closed between Orleans and Wells and again at the same time in the same location on Saturday night. #66 Chicago buses will operate in both directions via Chicago, Orleans, Erie, Wells then return to Chicago and resume the regular route.

#201 Central Ridge
From 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 26 until 5 a.m. Monday, October 29, Howard Street will be closed at the Red Line. #201 buses will operate via Ashland, Howard, Rogers, Sheridan, Howard, Rogers, Howard terminal then resume the regular route. The reroute also will be in effect from 7:30 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, October 29 through Thursday, November 1.

Elevator Temporarily Out of Service at O'Hare Station
The elevator leading from the platform to the mezzanine level at the O'Hare Blue Line station is temporarily out of service until 11 p.m. on Friday, October 26. Customers who require the use of the elevator must exit at Rosemont station where they will be able to board an accessible van to complete their trip to O'Hare station.

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation
The eastbound near side bus stop at 95th and King Drive will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop beginning Thursday, October 25 until Thursday, November 1. The stop is served by the #95E 93rd/95th, #100 Jeffery Manor and the #111 Pullman/111th/115th routes.
