Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of November 28-30

NOTE: CTA will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thursday, November 27—Thanksgiving Day. Bus and rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Friday, November 28.

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Single Track in Effect for Southbound Blue Line Trains at Cumberland
A single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains at the Cumberland station from 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

Southbound Blue Line customers at Cumberland must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Blue Line Trains at Montrose Next Week
From 8 p.m. Thursday, December 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning,
a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between Montrose and Jefferson Park.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Montrose must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains Along the Forest Park Branch
Due to CTA track maintenance, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Western and Pulaski stations from 9 p.m. Saturday, November 29 until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Blue Line customers at the Western and Kedzie-Homan stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Sunday and Monday Nights – Southbound
From 9 p.m. Sunday, November 30 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Monday, December 1 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains operating between the Kedzie-Homan and Western stations.

During these times, southbound Blue Line customers at Western must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Blue Line Trains between Kedzie-Homan and Cicero
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Kedzie-Homan and Cicero stations from 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 2 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan, Pulaski and Cicero stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Daytime Reroute of Brown Line Trains at Belmont Next Week
A daytime reroute will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, December 2 through Friday, December 5, while crews install outdoor acoustic panels surrounding the Belmont station.

During this time, northbound Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between 63rd and Garfield
Due to CTA track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the 63rd and Garfield stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, November 30 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again during the same hours beginning Monday night, December 1.

During these times, northbound Red Line customers at Garfield must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Bus and Rail Service for Special Events
CTA Buses Detoured for the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Sixteen CTA bus routes that operate downtown will undergo temporary reroutes for the 75th Annual McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Thursday, November 27.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and proceed north on State from Congress to Randolph. All east-west streets between Roosevelt and Wacker will be closed at State from 8 a.m. until the end of the parade.

CTA will detour the following bus routes operating in the vicinity of the parade from early morning until the parade ends:

  • #10 Museum of Science & Industry
  • #14 Jeffery Express
  • #20 Madison
  • #22 Clark
  • #29 State
  • #36 Broadway
  • #56 Milwaukee
  • #60 Blue Island/26th
  • #62 Archer

  • #145 Wilson/Michigan Express
  • #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
  • #147 Outer Drive Express
  • #151 Sheridan

All CTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thursday. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Additional Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. – Philadelphia 76ers versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. – Anaheim Ducks versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, December 4 at 7 p.m. – The Cheetah Girls concert

Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses no longer will make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
UPDATED: #9 Ashland Buses Temporarily Rerouted on Sundays
From 6 a.m. Sunday morning, November 30 until 6 a.m. Monday morning, December 1, #9 Ashland buses operating in both directions will be temporarily rerouted at Ashland/16th Street due to railroad track repairs.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to 18th then will operate via 18th, Laflin, 15th to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.

#76 Diversey and #151 Sheridan Buses Detoured for the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot
On Thursday, November 27 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the #76 Diversey and #151 Sheridan buses will be temporarily detoured due to street closures for The Turkey Trot in Lincoln Park.

Eastbound #76 Diversey buses will operate over the regular route along Diversey to Sheridan then will operate via Sheridan, Belmont, Lake Shore Drive West to Diversey and then resume the regular route. Westbound #76 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.

Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan and will continue south until Sheridan turns into Lakeview Avenue. Buses then will travel via Lakeview, Fullerton, Lincoln Park West, Clark, LaSalle to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.

#68 Northwest Highway Buses Rerouted for Annual Edison Park Turkey Trot
On Thursday, November 27 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Northwest Highway will be closed between Devon and Overhill due to the annual Edison Park Turkey Trot.

Northbound #68 Northwest Highway buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield/Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.

#35 35th Buses Detoured Due to Work on Pedway at US Cellular Field
Beginning 9 a.m. Friday, November 28 until 6 a.m. Monday, December 1, 35th Street will be closed to all traffic between Shields and Wentworth due to construction work on the pedway at US Cellular Field.

Westbound #35 35th buses will travel over the regular route along 35th to LaSalle then operate via LaSalle, 33rd, Shields to 35th and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #35 buses will travel along 35th to Shields then operate via Shields, 33rd, Wentworth to 35th and then resume the regular route.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route
With the exception of December 25, hours of operation on the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended through Saturday, December 27, 2008. During this time, the Museum of Science & Industry will open at 9 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and at 11 a.m. on Sundays. Closing times will vary.

Service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies Van der Rohe each morning approximately 35 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus will depart from the museum approximately 40 minutes after closing.

The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Temporarily Rerouted
The #2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will continue to be temporarily rerouted until further notice.

Northbound #2 buses will operate over the regular route along Drexel to 47th, then travel via 47th, Woodlawn to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #15 buses will operate over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn, 47th, Drexel to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #15 buses will travel the reverse route.

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge
Until further notice, two CTA bus routes will be detoured around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line’s Grand station.

Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio then return to State and resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Ellis and 57th
Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop located at Ellis and 57th will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to construction on the University of Chicago campus. This change will affect #171 U. of Chicago/Hyde Park and #172 U. of Chicago/Kenwood buses.
