Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of November 21-23

NOTE: CTA will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thursday, November 27—Thanksgiving Day. Bus and rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Friday, November 28.

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Division Temporarily Suspended this Weekend
Rail service between the Clark/Lake and Division Blue Line subway stations will be temporarily suspended from 9 p.m. Friday, November 21 to 3 a.m. Monday, November 24, while crews replace track and rail ties, and install a new signal and train control system.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the Clark/Lake and Division stations.

Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities CTA also will operate an additional bus shuttle because the Division station is not equipped with an elevator and the elevators at the Clark/Lake station are temporarily unavailable due to repair work.

Southbound customers who need an elevator to access rail service should board the CTA shuttle bus at Western, which then will proceed directly to the accessible Jackson station.

Rather than exiting at Clark/Lake, northbound customers who need an elevator are advised to exit at Jackson where they can board a CTA shuttle bus to the accessible Western station.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track for Blue Line Trains at Rosemont This Weekend
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains at the Rosemont station from 11 p.m. Friday, November 21 until 7 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Rosemont must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Saturday Night – Southbound
From 10 p.m. Saturday, November 22 until 7 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains at the Rosemont station.

Southbound Blue Line customers at Rosemont must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform during this time.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains along the Forest Park Branch Due to CTA track maintenance, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Austin and Cicero stations from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, November 24 through Thursday morning, November 27.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Austin must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Brown/Red Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
CTA Completes Three-Track Operation at Brown Line Fullerton Station
Beginning Saturday, November 22 at 5 a.m., construction will be complete on the southbound track at Fullerton and service will be available on both southbound tracks signaling the end of three-track operation during rush hour at the station.

CTA expects to conclude three-track operation at Belmont by the end of the year.

Brown and Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont
Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, southbound Brown and Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks at Belmont from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 22.

Southbound Brown and Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.

In addition, northbound Red Line customers at Fullerton must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line trains will stop at Diversey.

During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Southbound Brown Line customers traveling to Diversey should exit at Fullerton and board any northbound train to Diversey. Customers at Diversey who want to travel southbound should board any northbound train and exit at Belmont to access a southbound train.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Daytime Reroute of Brown Line Trains at Belmont Next Week
A daytime reroute will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, November 24 through Wednesday, November 26, while crews install acoustic panels along the Belmont station.

During this time, northbound Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Green & Orange Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
Construction Work Impacts Green and Orange Line Service this Weekend
Rail service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT Green Line stations will be temporarily suspended from 1:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 24, while crews conduct repair work on the Green and Orange Line elevated structure and replace deteriorated rail ties and tracks.

CTA will operate bus shuttles between the Green Line 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station and the Red Line 35th station where customers can board Red Line trains to Roosevelt to complete their trip downtown or to board Green Line trains to continue their trips.

Customers on northbound Green Line trains who wish to attend the Magnificent Mile Parade can transfer to the Red Line and exit at Grand or Chicago.

Green Line trains will operate normally between the Harlem and Roosevelt stations and between the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station and the south Green Line terminals of Ashland/63rd and East 63rd/Cottage Grove.

In addition, during these hours a single track will be in effect on the Orange Line between the Halsted and Roosevelt stations. Customers will board trains on the side of the platform they normally use; however, there may be delays in service.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Pink Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Pink Line Trains Operating Between 54th/Cermak and Kostner this Weekend
Due to grade crossing repair work, a single track will be in effect for eastbound Pink Line trains operating between the 54th/Cermak and Kostner stations from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 22.

Eastbound Pink Line customers at Cicero must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Saturday to Sunday – Westbound
From 6 p.m. Saturday night, November 22 until 6 p.m. Sunday night, November 23, a single track will be in effect for westbound Pink Line trains operating between the Kostner and 54th/Cermak stations. During this time, westbound Pink Line customers at Cicero must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Southbound Red Line Trains between Roosevelt and Grand
From 11 p.m. Friday, November 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning,
a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Grand and Roosevelt stations due to construction work.

Southbound Red Line customers at Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between 63rd and Garfield
Due to CTA track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the 63rd and Garfield stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, November 23 through Wednesday morning, November 26.

During these times, northbound Red Line customers at Garfield must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect for Southbound Red Line Trains between 63rd and 69th
Due to bridge inspections, a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the 63rd and 69th stations from 11 p.m. Saturday, November 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

During this time, southbound Red Line customers at 63rd must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Next Week
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 26 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the 69th and 63rd stations. Northbound Red Line customers at 63rd must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform during this time.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Yellow Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Yellow Line Service Temporarily Suspended on Sunday Due to Maintenance Work
Yellow Line service between the Skokie and Howard stations will be temporarily suspended on Sunday, November 23 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to CTA track maintenance work.

Customers are advised to use the #97 Skokie bus service as a substitute for Yellow Line service. The CTA will provide additional #97 Skokie buses to accommodate customers.

Customers will be able to transfer to Purple and Red Line trains at Howard station.

Bus and Rail Service for Special Events
Buses Detoured and Service Increased for Saturday’s Magnificent Lights Festival
Eleven CTA bus routes will be detoured off North Michigan Avenue on Saturday, November 22, for the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. The festival motorcade is scheduled to step off at 6 p.m. from Rush and Oak and will travel south on Michigan Avenue to Wacker Drive.

Immediately following the parade will be a fireworks display which will be visible along the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.

In anticipation of large crowds for the event, more frequent bus service will be provided on the #3 King Drive, #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #22 Clark, #62 Archer, #66 Chicago, #70 Division, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan routes.

In addition, more frequent service will be provided on the Red Line. Longer trains will operate on the Pink, Brown and Orange lines.

Annual CTA Holiday Train Debuts on Saturday
Now in its 17th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train will make its first appearance Saturday, November 22, spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers.

Debuting on the Red and Purple Lines, the Holiday Train will travel along all CTA rail lines throughout November and December as part of its regular rail service. Normal CTA fares apply.

The train will run between approximately 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route
With the exception of December 25, hours of operation on the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended beginning Friday, November 21 through Saturday, December 27, 2008. During this time, the Museum of Science & Industry will open at 9 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and at 11 a.m. on Sundays. Closing times will vary.

Service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Lake Shore Drive each morning approximately 35 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus will depart from the museum approximately 40 minutes after closing.

The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
#77 Belmont Buses Temporarily Rerouted at the Brown Line
Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Belmont Avenue will be closed to all traffic at the Belmont Red and Brown Line station from 9 p.m. Friday, November 21 until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Sheffield and then travel via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted to Belmont and then resume the regular route. Westbound #77 buses will travel the reverse route.

Two Bus Routes Detoured for Helicopter Lift at Michigan and Randolph on Sunday
On Sunday, November 23 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Randolph Street will be closed between Michigan and Columbus due to a helicopter lift taking place at 200 E. Randolph. During this time, #4 Cottage Grove and #60 Blue Island buses will be temporarily detoured.

Northbound #4 and #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Columbus to South Water for the end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #4 and westbound #60 buses will operate from South Water to Michigan and then resume the regular route.

Temporary Detour of #145, #146 and #151 Buses on Sunday Due to Helicopter Lift
From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses operating in both directions will be temporarily rerouted to nearby streets due to a helicopter lift at 3300 N. Lake Shore Drive.

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Ellis and 57th
Effective Monday, November 24 and until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop located at Ellis and 57th will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to construction on the University of Chicago campus. This change will affect #171 U. of Chicago/Hyde Park and #172 U. of Chicago/Kenwood buses.

New Bus Stop Location Added to the #100 Jeffery Manor Express Route
Effective Tuesday, November 25, westbound #100 Jeffery Manor Express customers can board and exit buses from the new far side bus stop located at 95th and Stony Island. This new bus stop location will only be served by westbound #100 buses.

Southbound #95E 93rd/95th customers are to continue using the existing near side bus stop located at 95th and Stony Island.

#68 Northwest Highway Buses Rerouted for Annual Edison Park Turkey Trot
On Thursday, November 27 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Northwest Highway will be closed between Devon and Overhill due to the annual Edison Park Turkey Trot.

Northbound #68 Northwest Highway buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield/Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#9 Ashland Buses Temporarily Rerouted on Sunday
From 6 a.m. Sunday morning, November 23 until 6 a.m. the following Monday morning, #9 Ashland buses operating in both directions will be temporarily rerouted at Ashland/16th Street due to railroad track repairs.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to 18th then will operate via 18th, Laflin, 15th to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Temporarily Rerouted
The #2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will continue to be temporarily rerouted until further notice.

Northbound #2 buses will operate over the regular route along Drexel to 47th, then travel via 47th, Woodlawn to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #15 buses will operate over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn, 47th, Drexel to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #15 buses will travel the reverse route.

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge
Until further notice, two CTA bus routes will be detoured around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line’s Grand station.

Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio then return to State and resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
