Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of November 14-16

Reroutes in Effect for Loop Elevated Routes for Tie Renewal and Signal Work
The CTA continues slow zone prevention work during the week on the Loop elevated tracks. Crews are replacing track and rail ties, and installing a new signal and train control system.

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Division Temporarily Suspended This Weekend
Rail service between the Clark/Lake and Division Blue Line subway stations will be temporarily suspended from 9 p.m. Friday, November 14 to 3 a.m. Monday, November 17, while crews replace track and rail ties, and install a new signal and train control system.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the Clark/Lake and Division stations.

Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
CTA also will operate an additional bus shuttle because the Division station is not equipped with an elevator and the elevators at the Clark/Lake station are temporarily unavailable due to repair work.

Southbound customers who need an elevator to access rail service should board the CTA shuttle bus at Western, which then will proceed directly to the accessible Jackson station.

Rather than exiting at Clark/Lake, northbound customers who need an elevator are advised to exit at Jackson where they can board a CTA shuttle bus to the accessible Western station.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track for Southbound Blue Line Trains between Jefferson Park and Montrose
A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains operating between the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations from 11 p.m. Friday, November 14 until 7 a.m. the following morning.

Southbound Blue Line customers at Montrose must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains between Montrose and Addison
A single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains operating between the Montrose and Addison stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 15 until 8 a.m. the following morning.

Southbound Blue Line customers at Irving Park must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Monday and Tuesday – Northbound
From 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Monday night, November 17 and then again during the same hours Tuesday night, November 18, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Addison and Montrose stations.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Irving Park must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Blue Line Trains between Cumberland and Rosemont
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Cumberland and Rosemont stations from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Wednesday night, November 19 and then again during the same hours Thursday night, November 20.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Cumberland must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Green & Orange Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
Delays Expected on the Green and Orange Lines This Weekend Due to Structure Work
From 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, November 15 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 17, construction crews will be conducting repair work to the Green and Orange Line elevated structure along 14th Place between State and Wabash. During this time, CTA crews also will be replacing deteriorated rail ties and tracks as part of preventative maintenance.

Trains will serve all rail stations along the Green and Orange Lines; however, delays in service are expected due to trains operating on a single track between select stations.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Pink Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Pink Line Trains Operating Between Kostner and 54th/Cermak This Weekend
Due to grade crossing repair work, a single track will be in effect for eastbound Pink Line trains operating between the 54th/Cermak and Kostner stations from 1 a.m. Saturday morning, November 15 until 2 a.m. Sunday morning, November 16.

Eastbound Pink Line customers at Cicero must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Sunday to Monday – Westbound
From 2 a.m. Sunday morning, November 16 until 2 a.m. Monday morning, November 17, a single track will be in effect for westbound Pink Line trains operating between the Kostner and 54th/Cermak stations.

During this time, westbound Pink Line customers at Cicero must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between Roosevelt and Grand
From 11 p.m. Friday, November 14 until 4 a.m. the following morning,
a single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the Roosevelt and Grand stations due to construction work.

Northbound Red Line customers at Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Next Week
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, November 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between Grand and Roosevelt.

Southbound Red Line customers at Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between 63rd and Garfield
Due to CTA track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the 63rd and Garfield stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, November 16 through Wednesday morning, November 19.

During these times, northbound Red Line customers at Garfield must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect for Southbound Red Line Trains between 79th and 87th
Due to track maintenance work, a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the 79th and 87th stations from 10 p.m. Thursday, November 20 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

During this time, southbound Red Line customers at 79th must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Yellow Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Yellow Line Service Temporarily Suspended on Sunday Due to Maintenance Work
Yellow Line service between the Skokie and Howard stations will be temporarily suspended on Sunday, November 16 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to CTA track maintenance work.

Customers are advised to use the #97 Skokie bus service as a substitute for Yellow Line service. The CTA will provide additional #97 Skokie buses to accommodate customers.

Customers will be able to transfer to Purple and Red Line trains at Howard station.

Additional Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. – St. Louis Blues versus Blackhawks
  • Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls
  • Sunday, November 16 at 6 p.m. – San Jose Sharks versus Blackhawks

Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses no longer will make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #65 Grand Buses Rerouted Sunday Morning
On Saturday, November 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Illinois Street will be closed between Kingsbury and Franklin and Orleans Street will be closed between Hubbard and Grand due to a helicopter lift at 320 W. Illinois.

Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Orleans to Kinzie then will travel via Kinzie, LaSalle, Grand to Orleans and then resume the regular route. Southbound service is not affected and #11 buses will travel the regular route.

Eastbound #65 Grand buses will travel over the regular route along Grand to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Chicago, Wells to Illinois and then resume the regular route.

Westbound #65 buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Orleans then will travel via Orleans, Chicago, Halsted to Grand and then resume the regular route.

#77 Belmont Buses Temporarily Rerouted at the Brown Line
Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Belmont Avenue will be closed to all traffic at the Belmont Red and Brown Line station for two nights next week from 9 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning on Wednesday night, November 19, and then again during the same hours Thursday night, November 20.

During these times, eastbound #77 Belmont buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Sheffield and then travel via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted to Belmont and then resume the regular route. Westbound #77 buses will travel the reverse route.

Temporary Reroute of #50 Damen Buses Tuesday through Friday Next Week
Damen Avenue will be closed between Eastwood and Leland from 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 18 until 7 p.m. Friday, November 21, due to sewer construction work. Northbound and southbound #50 Damen buses will be rerouted to adjacent streets during this time.

Changes to Eastbound Bus Stops at Cermak/Indiana and Cermak/Michigan
Effective Monday, November 17, changes will be made to two eastbound bus stops served by #3 King Drive, #X3 King Drive Express, #4 Cottage Grove, #X4 Cottage Grove Express, #18 16th/18th and #21 Cermak buses.

The eastbound near side stop located on Cermak at Michigan will be relocated to a far side bus stop.

The eastbound near side bus stop located on Cermak at Indiana will be permanently removed. Customers are advised to board and exit buses from the eastbound far side stop on Cermak at Michigan.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Railroad Crossing Repairs Temporarily Reroute #56A North Milwaukee and #90N North Harlem Buses
Until 6 a.m. Saturday, November 15, Harlem Avenue will be temporarily closed between Avondale and Northwest Highway due to railroad track replacement.

During morning and evening rush periods, northbound #56A North Milwaukee buses will operate over the regular route along Devon to Northwest Highway then will travel via Northwest Highway, Harlem to Devon for the end of route and start of southbound service.

Northbound #90N North Harlem buses will travel over the regular route along Harlem to Avondale then will operate via Avondale, Devon to Harlem and then resume the regular route. Southbound #90N buses will travel the reverse route.

Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
Until Sunday, November 16, #205 Chicago/Golf buses will be rerouted due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick. Northbound #205 buses will travel over the regular route along Church to McCormick then operate via McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route. Southbound #205 buses will travel the reverse route.

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Clarendon and Windsor
Until 4 p.m. Monday, November 17, the northbound and southbound bus stops located at Clarendon and Windsor will be temporarily removed due to sewer repair work. This location is served by #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses.

Customers are advised to board and exit buses at the northbound and southbound bus stops located half a block south at Clarendon and Sunnyside.

Temporary Relocation of Northbound Bus Stop at Western and 95th
Due to construction at the northeast corner of Western and 95th, the northbound far side bus stop served by the #X49 Western Express and #49A South Western buses will be temporarily relocated until Thursday, November 20.

Northbound #X49 buses will now stop further north of the current location, beyond the bank and restaurant driveways.

Northbound #49A buses will now stop near side, adjacent to the restaurant at 9501 S. Western.

Temporary Removal of Eastbound Bus Stop at Chicago/Fairbanks
Until 3 p.m. Friday, November 21, the eastbound bus stop located at Chicago and Fairbanks served by #3 King Drive, #X4 Cottage Grove Express, #26 South Shore Express, #66 Chicago and #157 Streeterville buses will be temporarily removed due to construction.

At Chicago and Mies Van der Rohe, customers can board #3, #X4, #26 and #66 buses.

At Fairbanks and Superior, customers can board #3, #66 and #157 buses.

#9 Ashland Buses Temporarily Rerouted on Sundays
From 6 a.m. each Sunday morning until 6 a.m. the following Monday morning, through November 23, #9 Ashland buses operating in both directions will be temporarily rerouted at Ashland/16th Street due to railroad track repairs.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to 18th then will operate via 18th, Laflin, 15th to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Temporarily Rerouted
The #2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will continue to be temporarily rerouted until further notice.

Northbound #2 buses will operate over the regular route along Drexel to 47th, then travel via 47th, Woodlawn to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #15 buses will operate over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn, 47th, Drexel to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #15 buses will travel the reverse route.

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge
Until further notice, two CTA bus routes will be detoured around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line’s Grand station.

Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
