Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of May 9-11

Elevated Loop Signal Project
Crews began work this week to replace the signal and train control systems, and replace deteriorated rail ties and track in an effort to prevent slow zones along the Loop elevated tracks. The track work requires trains to be rerouted periodically from the Lake and Wabash stretches of elevated track to the Wells and Van Buren elevated tracks.

IMPORTANT: see separate release for further details. Work related to the elevated Loop signal project will affect the Brown, Green, Orange, Purple and Pink lines, and at times, will also affect Red Line trains that may be temporarily rerouted to elevated tracks due to separate construction and repair work.

Slow Zone Work
Red Line Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks
While work is under way to eliminate slow zones, both northbound and southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations will reroute to the elevated tracks from 10 p.m. Friday, May 9 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 12. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally from 95th to Cermak-Chinatown, then reroute to the Roosevelt elevated station and proceed to the inner Loop track along Van Buren and Wells. Northbound Red Line trains will make their first stop at Library, then LaSalle/Van Buren, Quincy/Wells, Washington/Wells, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage, then to Fullerton where they will resume normal northbound service.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally from Howard to Fullerton, then reroute to Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin and Merchandise Mart, then to the outer Loop track along Wells and Van Buren. In the Loop, southbound Red Line trains will stop at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren, Library to Roosevelt elevated, then proceed to the Cermak-Chinatown station where they will resume normal southbound Red Line service.

Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 4 a.m. Monday.

In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Next Week

Monday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 14 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning
Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton station and the Cermak-Chinatown station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated. Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Weekend Blue Line Service from Harlem to Rosemont Temporarily Suspended
Rail service between the Harlem, Cumberland and Rosemont Blue Line stations will be temporarily suspended in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday, May 9 to 3 a.m. Monday, May 12 in order to replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the Harlem, Cumberland and Rosemont stations. Extra travel time is advisable.

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Cumberland Blue Line Station
From 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. each day beginning Tuesday, May 13 through the morning of Friday, May 16,
a single track will be in effect at the Cumberland Blue Line station. Northbound customers at the Cumberland station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont
Northbound Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Red Line tracks from 8 p.m. Friday, May 9 until 4 a.m. Saturday, May 10.

During this time, northbound customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Saturday Morning Reroute of Brown Line Trains at Fullerton and Belmont
Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on Red Line tracks at the Fullerton and Belmont stations from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Northbound Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the Red Line side of the platform.

During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey should exit at Belmont and board a southbound train to Diversey. Customers boarding at Diversey who want to travel northbound should board a southbound train and exit at Fullerton to board a northbound train.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line ? Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Forest Park Branch of Blue Line
A single track will be in effect between the Halsted and LaSalle Blue Line stations from 11 p.m. Friday, May 9 until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 10, due to sewer maintenance work.

Northbound Blue Line customers at Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Subway This Weekend
From 10 p.m. Saturday, May 10 until 6 a.m. Sunday, May 11,
a single track will be in effect between the LaSalle and Grand Blue Line subways stations due to sewer maintenance work.

Northbound customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Lake subway stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect on Forest Park Branch of Blue Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations on the Blue Line from 9 p.m. Monday, May 12 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 13.

Southbound customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Green Line ? Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Green Line
While crews conduct track maintenance and repair work, a single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Austin Green Line stations from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. each the following morning on Sunday, May 11 and Monday, May 12.

Southbound customers at the Oak Park, Ridgeland and Austin stations must board and exit trains on the northbound side of platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect on Green Line Next Week
A late night single track will be in effect between the Austin and Laramie stations along the Green Line from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15, while crews perform track maintenance.

Southbound customers at Central must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Southbound customers at Laramie must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line ? Other Events Affecting Service
South Entrances to Grand Red Line Station Temporarily Closed
The southeast and southwest entrances to the Grand Red Line station are temporarily closed due to the reconstruction of the Grand station mezzanine and platform.

Customers can access the station from the northeast and northwest entrances.

In addition, the westbound near side stop at Grand and State served by #65 Grand buses has been relocated to a far side stop.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Summer Service Along #130 Grant Park Treasures Begins
Effective Saturday, May 10, summer service begins along the #130 Grant Park Treasures bus route. From 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., #130 buses will operate in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station to the Museum Campus on weekends and holidays through Labor Day.

Bus Service Stop Temporarily Eliminated
The northbound near side service stop on Museum Campus Drive and McFetridge served by the #12 Roosevelt, #130 Grant Park Treasures and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be temporarily eliminated due to ongoing construction.

Temporary Removal of Bus Service Stop
The westbound near side stop at 95th Street and Damen Avenue served by the #95W 95th West buses will be temporarily removed due to construction of a public library along 95th Street.

Bus Service Stop Temporarily Eliminated Due to Construction
The southbound mid-block bus service stop on State Street between Congress and Harrison will be temporarily eliminated due to construction. This stop is served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses.

Temporary Removal of Bus Service Stop Next Two Weekends
Effective 10 p.m. Friday, May 9 until 5 a.m. Monday, May 12 and then again from 10 p.m. Friday, May 16 until 5 a.m. Monday, May 19, the eastbound far side service stop at Monroe/Wabash will be temporarily eliminated due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by the #14 Jeffrey Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and the #60 Blue Island/26th buses.

Street Closures and Bus Reroutes for Y-Me Race Sunday
From 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, Balbo Drive between Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive; Columbus Drive between Randolph Street and Roosevelt Drive; Randolph Street between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive; Congress Plaza Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive; and Michigan Avenue between Roosevelt Drive and Congress Plaza Drive will be closed for the Y-Me 5K Run.

The following bus routes traveling in the vicinity of the race will be rerouted to nearby streets for the duration of the event:

  • #4 Cottage Grove
  • #6 Jackson Park Express
  • #10 Museum of Science & Industry
  • #14 Jeffrey Express
  • #60 Blue Island/26th
  • #126 Jackson
  • #130 Grant Park Treasures

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Lane Closure
Beginning Wednesday, May 14 at 7 a.m., Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at the Benito Juarez School.

Until further notice, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Pulaski Due to Construction
#53 Pulaski buses are rerouting until Tuesday, July 15 at Pulaski and Roscoe due to water main repairs.

#53 buses will operate in both directions via Pulaski, Belmont, Cicero, Addison then return to Pulaski and resume the regular route.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Buses Rerouted Due To Construction Through May 10
Westbound #170 University of Chicago/Midway and #192 University of Chicago Hospitals Express buses continue to be rerouted until Saturday, May 10, due to construction on 59th Street at Drexel.

#170 buses will travel over the regular route to Ellis then will operate via Ellis, Midway Plaisance, Drexel to Cottage Grove and then resume the regular route.

#192 University of Chicago Hospitals Express buses will travel over the regular route to Ellis then will operate via Ellis, Midway Plaisance, Drexel, Midway Plaisance then return to Cottage Grove and resume the regular route.

A temporary stop has been placed on Drexel to accommodate the service.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line's Grand station.

Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction
Southbound #201 Central/Ridge and #206 Evanston Circulator buses will be rerouted until 5 a.m. Thursday, July 31 due to street reconstruction.

#201 and #206 buses will travel over the regular route to Greenleaf then will operate via Greenleaf, Asbury, Howard, Ridge and then resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute for Construction Through September
#87 87th buses continue to be rerouted in both directions until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 17 due to street reconstruction.

Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route to Vincennes then will operate via Vincennes, 83rd, Lafayette then return to 87th and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel over the regular route to State then will operate via State, 83rd, Vincennes then return to 87th and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute Downtown for Construction
From midnight each night until 6 a.m. the following morning Randolph Street will be closed from State to Dearborn through Saturday, November 1.

In addition, Dearborn Street is closed between Washington and Randolph from 9 p.m. each day until 6 a.m. the following morning through Saturday, November 1.

Northbound #22 Clark, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to Washington then will operate via Monroe, State, Wacker then return to Dearborn and resume the regular route.

Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
Reroute of #205 Chicago/Golf buses will continue until November 16, due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick.

#205 Buses will operate in both directions via Church, McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street between the hours of 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction.

#43 43rd buses will operate in both directions via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute at Clark and Polk
Until further notice, #22 Clark and #36 Broadway buses will be rerouted in the area of Clark and Polk streets.

Southbound #22 buses will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wells for the end of route. Northbound buses will leave from Harrison-Wells via Wells, Polk, Dearborn and then resume the regular route.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to State then will operate via State, Harrison, Wells for the end of the route. Northbound will leave from Harrison-Wells via Wells, Polk, Dearborn and then resume the regular route.
