Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of May 27-28

CTA to provide extra service for upcoming concerts; Electrical work to temporarily impact evening Yellow Line service Saturday through early next week

The Chicago Transit Authority will provide extra service for concerts including U2 at Soldier Field, Jack Johnson at Northerly Island and Neil Diamond at the United Center. Separately, CTA service on the Yellow Line will be temporarily affected this weekend by electrical maintenance work.

Neil Diamond at the United Center – Sun. May 28, 2017

CTA is a convenient and affordable travel option for fans attending the Neil Diamond concert on Sunday, May 28 at 8 p.m.:

Bus Service:

  • #19 United Center Express: Service will begin approximately two hours before events until one hour after events end.  Buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on the Madison near Gate 3.
  • #50 Damen: The #50 route is a good option for customers accessing the United Center from the north or south and provides connections with Orange, Pink, Blue and Brown lines. Northbound #50 buses will await customers on Damen at Madison after each event.

Rail Service:

  • Green/Pink Lines: the Ashland/Lake station is located a few blocks northeast of the United Center. Customers exiting at the station can transfer to #9 Ashland buses or simply walk a few blocks to the stadium.
  • Blue Line: Customers taking the Blue Line can get to the United Center by exiting at the Illinois Medical District (IMD) station and walking a few blocks north to the United Center.

NOTE: the Damen Avenue entrance to IMD is temporarily closed. Customers will need to enter/exit using either the Ogden Avenue station entrance or the wheelchair accessible Paulina Street entrance (more info).

Jack Johnson at Northerly Island – Thu. June 1 & Fri. June 2, 2017

CTA will provide extra service on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route for customers heading to/from the Jack Johnson concerts at Northerly Island on Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2.

Extra service on #146 will run leading up to the concerts at 7:30 p.m. until approximately 30 minutes after the event ends.

U2 at Soldier Field – Sat. June 3 & Sun. June 4, 2017
CTA will provide extra bus service on the #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes for customers heading to/from the U2: The Joshua Tree Tour at Soldier Field on Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4.

Extra service on #130 and #146 will run leading up to start of the concerts at 7 p.m. until approximately one hour after the events end.

Customers also can travel to Soldier Field via Red, Orange or Green line trains. The Roosevelt station is located at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium.

Yellow Line Service – Sat. May 27 to Wed. May 31, 2017

Normal Yellow Line service will conclude at 7 p.m. each night from Saturday, May 27 to Wednesday, May 31 related to electrical work being done by ComEd. Free bus shuttles will operate between the Howard, Oakton-Skokie and Dempster-Skokie stations from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Customers can also use #97 Skokie buses as an alternative. 

During this time, Yellow Line service will operate normally from the start of service until 7 p.m.
