Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of May 11 ? 13
Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks Over Weekend**REVISED
Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway will reroute to the elevated tracks over the weekend. Between Fullerton and Roosevelt, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the elevated tracks from 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12 until 2 a.m. Monday, May 14.
Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick.
In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles throughout the reroute to help customers make their normal connections.
Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick station where customers may board Red Line trains. Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin station where customers may board Red Line trains. Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Harrison/State and Roosevelt/Wabash where customers may board Red Line trains.
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway at 2 a.m. Monday, May 14. (See separate release.)
Southbound Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks Late Night Next Week
Southbound service on the Red Line between the North/Clybourn station and the Roosevelt station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 14, Tuesday, May 15, Wednesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 17 due to planned construction and maintenance work.
Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Lake to access southbound Red Line trains at the State/Lake elevated station.
Southbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the Roosevelt station and board a northbound Red Line train.
Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Customers are asked to allow extra travel time.
Northbound Red Line service is not affected.
Late Night Single Tracks in Effect on Blue Line
A single track will be in effect between Western and UIC-Halsted from 11 p.m., Thursday, May 10 until 1 a.m., Friday, May 11. Customers at the Illinois Medical District and Racine stations must board trains on the southbound side of the platform. Another single track will be in effect between LaSalle and Racine from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., on Friday, May 11. Customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board trains on the southbound side of the platform.
A single track will be in effect between Kedzie-Homan and Western from 11 p.m. Friday, May 11 until 7 a.m., Saturday, May 12, and at the same location from 11 p.m., Saturday, May 12 until 7 a.m., Sunday, May 13. Customers at the Western station must board trains on the northbound side of the platform.
Washington Closes for Looptopia Saturday and Sunday
Beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, May 11 until 2 a.m., Saturday, May 12, Washington Street will be closed between Clark and Dearborn. Eastbound #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th and #124 Navy Pier buses will operate via Washington, Clark, Monroe, State to Washington, then resume their regular routes.
Balbo and Columbus Close for Y-Me Race Sunday
Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive, and Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo will be closed from 4 a.m. until noon, Sunday, May 11. Northbound #3 King Drive and #4 Cottage Grove buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt, State and Congress to Michigan, then resume their regular routes.
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science and Industry and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate via Columbus, Roosevelt and State, then resume their regular routes. Southbound #146 Inner Drive Express buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt and Columbus, and then resume their regular route.
Northbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate via Columbus, Roosevelt, State, and Congress to Michigan, and then resume their regular route. Southbound buses will operate via Michigan, Balbo, Roosevelt and Columbus, and then resume their regular route.
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will operate via Michigan to Harrison. Westbound buses will operate via Michigan, Harrison, State and Adams, and then resume their regular route.
Northbound #130 Grant Park Treasures buses will operate via Columbus, Roosevelt, State and Adams, and then resume their regular route. Southbound buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt and Columbus, and then resume their regular route.
Eastbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will operate via Michigan to Harrison, then resume their regular route. Westbound buses will operate via Michigan, Harrison, State and Congress, and then resume their regular route.
Fullerton Avenue Closure Friday Night
Fullerton Avenue will be closed at the Red Line, between Sheffield and Clark, for relocation of the historic Fullerton stationhouse, from 9:15 p.m. Thursday, May 10 until 5 a.m. Friday, May 11. Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will operate via Fullerton, Sheffield, Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton, then resume their regular route.
Chicago Avenue Closure Sunday Morning
Chicago Avenue will be closed between Larrabee and Halsted for a helicopter lift from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m., Sunday, May 13. Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will operate via Chicago Avenue, Halsted, Division, Crosby, and Larrabee toChicago, then resume their regular route. Westbound buses will operate via Chicago Avenue, Larrabee, Crosby, Division, and Halsted to Chicago, and then resume their regular route.
Milwaukee Avenue Closure Tuesday Night
Milwaukee Avenue will be closed in both directions at Hubbard for railroad viaduct work from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 15. Southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will operate via Milwaukee, Hubbard and Desplaines, and then resume their regular route. Northbound #56 Milwaukee and #132 Goose Island buses will operate via Desplaines and Hubbard to Milwaukee, and then resume their regular route.
