Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of June 22-24

Single Track in Effect on Blue Line Through Next Week
A single track will be in effect on the Blue Line between Grand and Damen this weekend and through next week. Southbound customers boarding at Grand, Chicago and Division should board on the northbound side of the platform on the following dates and times:

  • 11 p.m. on Friday, June 22 until 1 a.m. on Monday,
    June 25
  • 9 p.m. Monday, June 25 until 5 a.m. Tuesday,
    June 26
  • 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 until 5 a.m. Wednesday,
    June 27
  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 until 5 a.m. Thursday,
    June 28
  • 9 p.m. Thursday, June 28 until 5 a.m. Friday, June 29

CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.

The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway.

Halsted Closes for Gay and Lesbian Pride Fest and Parade Beginning Saturday
Halsted will be closed from Addison to Grace, including the CTA bus terminal at Halsted and Waveland for set up from
3 a.m. Saturday, June 23 until 3 a.m. Sunday, June 24.

During set up, northbound #8 Halsted buses will operate via Addison, Broadway, Clarendon, Irving Park, Broadway to Waveland, where they will begin their southbound trips via Broadway, Addison, back to Halsted, then resume the regular route.

On Sunday, Halsted will be closed from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. between Fullerton and Broadway for the Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade. Buses on the #8 Halsted, #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #76 Diversey, #77 Belmont, #151 Sheridan and #152 Addison routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets for the duration of the parade.

In addition, extra service will be provided on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #78 Montrose bus routes for parade participants and spectators attending the Rocks Festival at the beach. The #78 will provide extra service from Montrose Beach to Clark from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. The #146 will provide extra service between Belmont and Montrose Beach between 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Columbus Closed for Taste of Chicago Set up
Columbus will be closed between Roosevelt and Jackson beginning at 5 a.m. Sunday, June 24 for the set up for the festival until Monday, July 9 at 6 a.m. after the event ends.

Southbound buses on the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and the routes will travel over the regular route to Balbo then will reroute via Michigan, Roosevelt, Columbus then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Harrison then reroute via Wabash, Balbo, Michigan, Congress to Michigan then resume the regular route.

Southbound #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express, #X28 Stony Island and #130 Museum Treasures buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/Balbo then continue south on Michigan to Roosevelt, Columbus then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Wabash, Balbo, Michigan, Congress to Michigan then resume the regular route.

Northbound #147 Outer Drive buses will operate the regular route Michigan/Congress then reroute via west on Congress to State then resume the regular route.

Diversey Brown Line Station Temporarily Closed
Beginning Monday, June 25 the Brown Line's Diversey station will temporarily close for 12 months for renovation as part of the Brown Line capacity expansion project.

The adjacent stations ? Wellington and Fullerton ? will remain open during the temporary closure so customers may continue to use them to access Brown Line service. In addition to nearby rail stations, there are six existing CTA bus routes that provide service near Diversey station on weekdays and weekends, the #8 Halsted, #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #74 Fullerton and the #76 Diversey.
