Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of July 27- July 29

Single Track in Effect on Blue Line O'Hare Branch This Week
Late night single track operation will be in effect throughout the week on the Blue Line's O'Hare Branch between Grand and Damen. Northbound customers boarding at Grand, Chicago and Division should board on the southbound side of the platform at the following times.

  • 9 p.m. Friday, July 27 until 9 a.m. Saturday, July 28
  • 4 a.m. Sunday, July 29 until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 29
  • 8 p.m. each evening until 4 a.m. each morning from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, August 2.

Weeknights through August 31, single tracks will typically be in effect from Grand to Division from 9 p.m. each night until
5 a.m. the following morning, Monday night through Friday morning.

Northbound and southbound customers boarding at Grand, Chicago and Division will board trains on the same side of the platform during late night single track work. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

The work is part of an aggressive new plan to eliminate slow zones. CTA is replacing deteriorated wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties which will eliminate slow zones along the tracks between Grand and Division and restore normal train speed to 55 mph.

Late Night Single Track on Blue Line Forest Park Branch
A late night single track operation will be in effect over the weekend between Western and Racine on the Forest Park Branch. From 7p.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday,July 29 northbound customers boarding at Illinois Medical District and Racine should board on the southbound side of the platform. From 11 p.m. Sunday, July 29 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 30 southbound customers boarding at Illinois Medical District and Racine should board on the northbound side of the platform.

CTA is upgrading the signal power and control systems. The project upgrades the train control and traction power system on the Blue Line from the Forest Park terminal through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park Terminal on the O'Hare branch

Southbound Red Line Service Temporarily Suspended at Jarvis, Morse and Loyola Stations Late Weeknights
From 10 p.m. Friday, July 27 until 4:30 a.m. Saturday,
July 28
southbound Red Line trains will temporarily operate on southbound Purple Line tracks at the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations. Southbound Red Line trains will be unable to stop at the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations due to track maintenance work to eliminate slow zones.

Southbound customers who want to exit at Jarvis, Morse or Loyola should board a northbound train at Granville and ride back to these stations. Southbound customers who want to board at these stations should board a northbound train, exit at Howard and board a southbound train.

CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Northbound Red Line service is not affected. Normal southbound service will resume at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Late Night Purple Line Single Track in Effect
A late night single track will be in effect on the Purple Line throughout the week between Central and Linden stations. Northbound customers boarding at Central must board on the southbound side of the platform from 10 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. each morning beginning Sunday night, July 29 through Wednesday morning, August 1.

CTA Provides Convenient Bus and Rail Service for Venetian Night
The Chicago Transit Authority will provide extra bus and rail service on Saturday evening, July 28 to accommodate the anticipated increase in customers heading to Venetian Night festivities.

Additional bus service will be provided on the following routes serving downtown:#4 Cottage Grove, #14 Jeffery Express, #29 State, #56 Milwaukee, #65 Grand and #66 Chicago.

Additional rail service and longer trains will operate on the Red and Blue Lines. Longer trains will operate on the Brown, Green, Pink and Orange lines as well as the Purple Line between Howard and Linden. The last trains will depart at their regular times.

Three CTA Bus Routes to Undergo Reroutes
Randolph from Michigan Avenue to Stetson will be closed in both directions due to street resurfacing from 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 until 6 a.m. Friday, July 27 and again from
7 p.m. Friday, July 27 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 30.

Northbound #4 Cottage Grove, buses will travel on Michigan to Wacker then will operate via Columbus to Randolph. Southbound service is not affected.

Eastbound #20 Madison buses will travel on Michigan to Wacker then will travel east on Wacker to Columbus. Westbound buses will travel north on Columbus to South Water then travel west to Michigan, south to Randolph and resume the regular route.

Northbound #60 Blue Island/26th will travel along Michigan to Wacker then will travel east to Columbus, south to Randolph and resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel along Randolph to Columbus then will travel north to South Water, west to Michigan then south to Randolph and resume the regular route.

Cermak Closed for Fiesta Del Sol
Cicero is closed between Morgan (1000 West) and Loomis (1400 West) for the annual Fiesta del Sol celebration until
1 a.m. Tuesday, July 31. Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are operating on Cermak to Loomis, 18th, to Halsted then back to Cermak to resume the regular route. Westbound #21 Cermak buses are operating on Cermak to Halsted, 18th to Loomis then back to Cermak to resume the regular route.

Pershing Closed for Parade
Pershing will be closed between Washtenaw and Francisco and California will be closed between 38th Street and 39th Street for the Novena in Honor of Saint Anne Parade on Thursday, July 27 from 7:40 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

#94 California buses will operate via 38th, Rockwell, Pershing, California and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute for Say No to Drugs Parade
#54 Cicero, #57 Laramie, #66 Chicago and #85 Central buses will undergo reroutes beginning at 9 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, July 28 for the Say No to Drugs Parade.

Southbound #54 Cicero buses will travel over the regular route to Augusta then will operate via Kilpatrick, Chicago then return to Cicero and resume the regular route. Northbound service is not affected.

Northbound #57 Laramie buses will travel over the regular route to Chicago then will operate via Cicero, Division then return to Laramie and resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Division then will operate via Central, Chicago then return to Laramie and resume the regular route.

Westbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route to Cicero then will operate via Division, Central then return to Chicago and resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are not affected.

#85 Central buses will operate over the regular route to Chicago then will operate via Austin, Augusta then return to Central and resume the regular route.

Madison Closed for Block Party
Madison will be closed between Keeler and Kildare for the Unity in the Neighborhood Block Party.

Eastbound #20 Madison buses will travel over the regular route to Kilbourn then will operate via Washington, Pulaski then return to Madison and resume the regular route.Westbound buses will travel over the regular route to Pulaski then will operate via Washington, Kostner then return to Madison and resume the regular route.

Downtown Streets Closed for Filming
Portions of LaSalle, Adams and Monroe will be closed to traffic due to filming. Fourteen CTA bus routes will undergo reroutes from 6:30 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. each morning from Thursday, July 26 until Sunday, July 29.

Northbound #1 Indiana Hyde Park will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Madison, Wacker then return to Adams and resume the regular route. Southbound service is not affected.

Westbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Madison, Wacker then return to Adams and resume the regular route. Eastbound service is not affected.

Southbound#14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via Clark, Monroe, then return to Michigan and resume the regular route. Northbound service is not affected.

Eastbound #20 Madison and the #X20 Washington/Madison Express will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via, Washington, Clark, Monroe, Michigan then return to Madison and resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

There is no Saturday or Sunday service on the #X20 Washington/Madison Express.

Northbound #X28 Stony Island Express will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Madison, Wacker then return to Adams and resume the regular route. Southbound service is not affected. There is no Saturday or Sunday service on the #X28.

Southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route to Washington then will operate via Clark, Monroe, Michigan, Madison and resume the regular route. Northbound service is not affected.

Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via, Clark, Monroe, Michigan, Madison then return to Michigan and resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Westbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Madison, Wacker to Adams and resume the regular route.

#134 Stockton/LaSalle Express and #156 LaSalle buses will be rerouted in both directions. Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Madison then will operate via Wacker to Adams and then resume the regular route.

Northbound buses will travel over the regular route to Franklin then will operate via Washington to LaSalle and resume the regular route. #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express buses do not operate on Saturdays and Sundays. Southbound service is not affected.

#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express and #151 Sheridan buses will reroute in both directions. Northbound buses will travel over the regular route to Franklin then will operate via Washington to LaSalle and resume the regular route.

Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Madison, Wacker to Adams and resume the regular route. #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express and #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses do not operate on Saturdays and Sundays.

Jackson Closed for Picnic
From 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 28, Jackson will be closed from Mayfield to Austin Boulevard for The New 29th Ward Family Gospel Picnic & Back to School Fest.

#126 Jackson buses will reroute via Jackson, Central, Madison, Austin and then resume the regular route.

Division Closed for Parade
Division between Humboldt and California and California between Division and North Avenue will be closed from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, July 28 for the Cease Fire Parade. #70 Division buses will reroute in both directions via Kedzie, Augusta, California, Division then resume the regular route. #52 California buses will reroute in both directions via Division, Western, North Avenue, California and resume the regular route.

Damen Closed for Wicker Park Summer Fest
Damen will be closed between Schiller and North Avenue from
4 a.m. Saturday, July 28 until 11 p.m. Sunday, July 29 for the Wicker Park Summer Fest.

Northbound #50 Damen buses will travel over the regular route to Division then will operate via Western, North Avenue then return to Damen and resume the regular route.

Southbound buses will operate over the regular route to North Avenue then will operate via Western, Division then return to Damen and resume the regular route.

Grand Closed for Helicopter Lift
Westbound #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier buses will rerouted from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday,
July 29 due to a street closure on Grand between Fairbanks and McClurg Court for a helicopter lift.

Buses will travel over the regular route to McClurg Court and then will operate via Ontario, Fairbanks then return to Grand and resume the regular route.

#22 Clark and #70 Division to Reroute on Saturday
From 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. the Walton and Dearborn intersection will be closed to traffic for the Newberry Research Library's Bughouse Square Debates.

Northbound #22 Clark buses and westbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route to Oak, then travel west on Oak to Clark and continue north on Clark and resume the regular route.

Bus Stops Relocated
The northbound bus stop at Kedzie at 25th that is served by the #52 Kedzie/California route will relocate to a far side stop on Monday, July 30.

The westbound bus stop on Blue Island at Wood Street that is served by the #60 Blue Island route has been relocated to a far side stop.

State Street Bridge Closed Next Week
The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 until 2:30 p.m.

Northbound #29 State buses will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via Dearborn, Kinzie then return to State and resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Kinzie then will operate via Clark, Wacker then return to State and resume the regular route.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to Kinzie then will operate via Clark, Wacker then return to State and resume the regular route. Northbound service is not affected.

Southbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to State then will operate via Hubbard, Clark, Wacker then return to State and resume the regular route.
