Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of July 18-20

Blue Line - Slow Zone Work
Temporary Suspension of Blue Line Service Between O'Hare and Rosemont Continues
While work is under way to eliminate slow zones, rail service between the O'Hare and Rosemont Blue Line stations continues to be temporarily suspended. A bus shuttle is operating in place of rail service between the O'Hare and Rosemont stations. The bus shuttles run 24 hours a day, the same hours of operation as the Blue Line.

Normal rail service will resume Monday, July 28.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Southbound Single Track in Effect on O'Hare Branch of the Blue Line
From 11 p.m. Friday, July 18 until 7 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, July 19 until 7 a.m. the following morning,
a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations.

Southbound customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track on O'Hare Branch of the Blue Line Next Week
A late night single track will be in effect between the Montrose and Addison Blue Line stations next week from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, July 22 through Friday morning, July 25. Southbound customers at the Irving Park station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line - Slow Zone Work
Red Line Subway Trains Temporarily Rerouted to Elevated Tracks This Weekend
Service on the Red Line between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations will be temporarily rerouted in both directions from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, July 18 until 3 a.m. Monday, July 21. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Bus shuttle service will also be available between select Red and Brown Line stations.

Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Armitage and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Saturday morning from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.

Southbound - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, July 21 through Thursday morning, July 24. Northbound service is not affected during these times.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th stations.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown: Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Northbound - Thursday
Northbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Thursday, July 24 until 5 a.m. the following morning. Southbound service is not affected during this time. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Armitage and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Northbound and Southbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Reroute at Sheridan
From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, July 22 through Friday, July 25,
northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Purple Express Line tracks.

Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains on the Purple Express platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Brown Line - Slow Zone Work
Southbound Single Track in Effect on Brown Line This Weekend
A single track will be in effect for southbound Brown Line trains between the Addison and Southport stations from 10 p.m. Friday, July 18 until 10 p.m. Sunday, July 20.

During this time, southbound customers at the Addison and Southport stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Southbound - Monday
From 8 p.m. Monday, July 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Brown Line trains between Addison and Southport. During this time, southbound customers at the Addison and Southport stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Northbound - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
From 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, July 22 through Friday morning, July 25, a single track will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains between Southport and Addison. During this time, northbound customers at the Southport and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Brown/Red Lines - Other Events Affecting Service
Brown and Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted Beginning Friday Night
Due to construction work at the Belmont Brown Line station this weekend and at Fullerton station early next week, all Brown and Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

This Weekend - Belmont
From 8 p.m. Friday, July 18 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 21, southbound Red and Brown Line trains will operate on the northbound tracks at Belmont. Southbound Red and Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line platform. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.

Next Week - Fullerton
From 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning on both Tuesday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 23, southbound Red and Brown Line trains will operate on the northbound tracks at Fullerton. Southbound customers at Fullerton must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.

During these hours, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Southbound Brown Line customers traveling to Diversey should exit at Fullerton and board a northbound train to Diversey. Southbound customers at Diversey should board a northbound train and exit at Belmont to board a southbound train.

Brown Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Opening of New Auxiliary Stairs at Chicago Brown Line Station
On Friday, July 18, the auxiliary stairs for the Chicago Brown Line that exit along Superior Street will be closed permanently. Customers may begin using the new auxiliary exit stairs located at the north end of each platform and exit at the south side of Chicago Avenue.

Green Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Green Line Next Week
A northbound single track will be in effect next week between the Austin and Harlem Green Line stations while crews conduct track maintenance and repair work. From 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, July 20 through Friday morning, July 25.

Northbound customers at the Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of platform. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Additional Bus/Rail Service for Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Concerts
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. - Joel Osteen
  • Tuesday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. - Coldplay
  • Wednesday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. - Coldplay

Buses will leave every 12 minutes from Michigan and Superior starting two hours before the concert begins. When the concert ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the concert, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.

Extra Service Provided for Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park This Weekend
The CTA will operate longer trains on the Green and Pink Lines for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park beginning Friday, July 18 until Sunday, July 20. Concert goers can get to Union Park via the # 9 Ashland and/or #20 Madison buses, or by taking the Green and Pink Lines to the Ashland station.

Buses Rerouted for Pitchfork Festival
From 5 p.m. Friday, July 18 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 21, #19 United Center Express and #X20 Washington/Madison Express buses will be temporarily rerouted due to the Pitchfork Festival. Westbound #19 and #X20 buses will operate over the regular route along Randolph to Ogden then travel via Ogden, Madison, Paulina to Washington and then resume the regular route.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Late Night Reroute of #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses
Due to work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Lincoln Avenue at Paulina will be closed to all traffic from 8 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning until Saturday morning, July 19.

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses operating in both directions will travel along Lincoln to Addison then operate via Addison, Ashland to Lincoln and then resume the regular route.

Two CTA Buses Rerouted Due to Repairs on the Wells Street Bridge
Due to work on the Wells Street Bridge the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #125 Water Tower Express buses will be rerouted until further notice.

The reroute will affect southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses only. Buses on both routes will travel over the regular route to Wells/Kinzie then will operate via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker then return to Wells over the regular route.

Emergency Sewer Repair Work Impacting Some Buses Operating Along Belmont
Due to emergency sewer construction work, Belmont between Halsted and Broadway will be closed to traffic except for CTA buses. Until 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, buses operating along the #77 Belmont, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle routes will continue to travel along their regular route through the affected area at a reduced speed.

#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
For the next month, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

#201 Central/Ridge Buses Temporarily Rerouted Until Mid-August
Due to construction along Sherman Road, northbound #201 Central/Ridge buses will be temporarily rerouted until Tuesday morning, August 19. Northbound #201 buses will operate the regular route along Clark to Maple and then travel via Maple, Emerson to Ridge and then resume the regular route. Southbound service is not affected.

Buses Rerouted for 63rd Street Summer Festival This Weekend
From 5 a.m. Saturday, July 19 until 2 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 63rd Street will be closed between Halsted and Laflin due to the annual 63rd Street Summer Festival.

Eastbound #63 63rd Street buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd to Justine through the Green Line service stop then travel via Ashland, 59th, Halsted to 63rd and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will travel over the regular route along 63rd to Halsted then operate via Halsted, 59th, Ashland, 63rd, Justine, through the Green Line service stop and then resume the regular route.

15 More Routes Added to the CTA Bus Tracker Program
Effective Monday, July 21, CTA's Bus Tracker program will feature new enhancements, such as Google-based mapping, and customers will be able to access real-time travel information for a total of 67 CTA bus routes with the addition of the following 15 routes to the Bus Tracker system:

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Buses Rerouted on Ridge Avenue Due to Road Reconstruction
Due to road reconstruction on Ridge Avenue between Howard Street and Main Street, the #201 Central Ridge and #206 Evanston Circulator buses will be rerouted until 5 a.m. Thursday, July 31.

Southbound #201 and #206 buses will travel along Ridge then will operate via Main, Asbury, Howard, Ridge and then resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute for Construction Through September
#87 87th buses continue to be rerouted in both directions until 5 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, due to street reconstruction.

Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route to Vincennes then will operate via Vincennes, 83rd, Lafayette then return to 87th and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel over the regular route to State then will operate via State, 83rd, Vincennes then return to 87th and resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer's Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 25, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer's Market.

During this time, southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to Clark then will operate via Clark, Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route to State then will travel via State, Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Buses Reroute Downtown for Construction
From midnight each night until 6 a.m. the following morning Randolph Street will be closed from State to Dearborn through Saturday, November 1.

In addition, Dearborn Street is closed between Washington and Randolph from 9 p.m. each day until 6 a.m. the following morning through Saturday, November 1.

Northbound #22 Clark, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Monroe and will then operate via Monroe, State, Wacker to Dearborn and then resume the regular route.

Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
Reroute of #205 Chicago/Golf buses will continue until November 16, due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick.

#205 buses will operate in both directions via Church, McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street.

#75 buses operating in both directions will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and then resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina Street and Ashland Avenue continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to the construction of the Harrison Street Tunnel. During this time, eastbound #7 Harrison and #126 Jackson buses will be rerouted.

Eastbound #7 buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Bus Stops Along Solidarity Drive Temporarily Removed Due to Construction
Until further notice, all bus stops along Solidarity Drive served by the #12 Roosevelt and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be temporarily removed due to construction.

Customers traveling to and from the Shedd Aquarium should exit and board #12 and #146 buses at McFetridge Drive.

Buses Reroute at Clark and Polk
Until further notice, #22 Clark and #36 Broadway buses will be rerouted in the area of Clark and Polk streets and will not be providing any service south of Harrison.

Southbound #22 Clark customers traveling to Polk will need to transfer to a #24 Wentworth bus prior to Congress (or a #129 West Loop/South Loop bus available only on weekdays during the morning and evening rush periods) to complete their trip.

Southbound #36 Broadway customers traveling to Polk will need to transfer to a #29 State or #62 Archer bus prior to Congress to complete their trip.

Both northbound #22 and #36 customers can board buses north of Harrison on Dearborn.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line's Grand station.

Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street between the hours of 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction.

#43 43rd buses will operate in both directions via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Lane Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School.

#60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route.
