Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of December 7 - 9

Northbound Red Line Subway Trains Rerouted to Elevated Tracks for Red Line Tunnel Work
Northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak/Chinatown station and the Fullerton station will reroute to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning on Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7.

Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound service is not affected.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between Roosevelt and Grand on the Red Line from midnight each night until 4 a.m. each morning beginning Sunday, December 9 through Friday morning, December 14.

Northbound Red Line customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains on the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Saturday Reroutes of Red and Brown Lines
Due to construction work associated with the Fullerton, Diversey and Belmont stations, northbound Red and Brown line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Red Line tracks at Fullerton and Belmont on Saturday, December 8 from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Northbound Red and Brown line customers will board and exit trains on the southbound Red Line platform. Southbound Red and Brown line customers will board and exit trains on the southbound Brown Line platform.

During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Wellington station; therefore, customers who want to exit at Wellington should continue to ride north to Belmont and then take a southbound train to Wellington. Northbound customers who wish to board at Wellington should take a southbound train to Fullerton and board a northbound train.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Next Week
From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning Monday, December 10 through Friday, December 14 southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to the southbound Brown Line tracks. Southbound Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains on the Brown Line side of the platform.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Northbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Reroute During Afternoon at Sheridan
Northbound Red Line trains will operate on the northbound Purple Express tracks at Sheridan from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9. During this time, northbound customers at Sheridan will board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Next Week
Northbound Red Line trains will operate on the northbound Purple Express tracks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day from Tuesday, December 11 through Friday, December 14.

During these times northbound customers at Sheridan will board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of the platform.

CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Single Track in Effect on Blue Line's O'Hare Branch
A three-phase single track will be in effect between the California and Addison stations on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line from 11 p.m. Friday, December 7 until noon on Saturday, December 8 and again from 11 p.m. Saturday, December 8 until noon on Sunday, September 9.

Northbound Service
From 11 p.m. Friday, December 7 until 4 a.m. Saturday, December 8 a single track will be in effect between the Addison and Belmont stations. Northbound customers at Addison and Belmont must board and exit trains on the southbound side of the platform.

From 4 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday, December 8 a single track will be in effect between the Addison and California stations. Northbound customers at the Addison, Belmont and Logan Square stations must board and exit trains on the southbound side of the platform.

From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, December 8 a single track will be in effect between the Belmont and California stations. Northbound customers at Logan Square must board and exit trains on the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound service is not affected.

Southbound Service
From 11 p.m. Saturday, December 8 until 4 a.m. Sunday, December 9 a single track will be in effect between the Addison and Belmont stations. Southbound customers at Addison and Belmont must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

From 4 a.m. until 8 a.m. Sunday, December 9 a single track will be in effect between the California and Addison stations. Southbound customers at Logan Square, Belmont and Addison must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

From 8 a.m. until noon Sunday, December 9 a single track is in effect between the California and Belmont stations. Southbound customers boarding at Logan Square must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Northbound service is not affected.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on O'Hare Branch of Blue Line
A single track will be in effect between the Grand and Damen stations on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line from 8 p.m. Sunday, December 9 until 4 a.m. Monday, December 10 and again next week from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Thursday, December 13 through Saturday morning, December 15.Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Southbound service is not affected.

Next weekFrom 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect between the Damen and Western stations. Southbound customers at Western and Damen must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

Howard Station Construction
The northbound platform at the Howard Red Line station will be temporarily out of service for construction work from 8 p.m. Friday, December 7 until 2 a.m. Monday, December 10. Customers must board trains from the southbound platform.

During this time, the #201 Central buses will be rerouted. Buses will operate via Ashland, Howard, Rogers, Sheridan, Howard, Rogers, Howard terminal then resume the regular route.

Red Line Subway Reconstruction at Grand/State
During the Red Line Subway reconstruction at Grand/State, the following bus stops will be affected through 4 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008:

#29 State
The southbound far side service stop at State and Grand will be eliminated and a new southbound near side service stop will be created at State and Illinois.

#36 Broadway
The northbound near side service stop at State and Grand will be relocated to a new northbound near side service stop at State and Ohio.

The southbound near side service stop at State and Grand will be eliminated and a new southbound near side service stop will be created at State and Illinois.

#65 Grand
The westbound near side service stop at Grand and State will be eliminated. There is an existing westbound near side service stop at Grand and Dearborn.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route
With the exception of a few select dates, hours of operation on the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route are extended through Sunday, January 6, 2008. During this time, the Museum of Science & Industry will open at 9:30 a.m. Closing times will vary.

Service on the #10 will begin operating at 8:55 a.m. from Chestnut/Lake Shore Drive each morning and the last bus will depart from the Museum of Science & Industry approximately 40 minutes after the museum closes.

The museum will be closed and there will be no service on the #10 route on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25. The #10 will not operate from Wednesday, January 2 through Friday, January 4.

Dorchester Closed for Construction
Dorchester continues to be closed between 60th and 61st streets through 3 p.m. Monday, January 7 due to construction.

Eastbound #59 59th/61st buses will travel over the regular route to 61st then will operate via Cottage, 60th, Dorchester, Midway Plaisance, Stony Island to 60th. Westbound buses will operate via 60th, Dorchester, Cottage Grove then return to 61st and resume the regular route.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

#19 United Center Express Serves Bulls and Blackhawks Games
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following dates and times:

  • Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. - Blackhawks versus the Anaheim Mighty Ducks
  • Saturday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. - Bulls versus Boston Celtics
  • Sunday, December 9 at 6 p.m. " Blackhawks versus Calgary Flames
  • Tuesday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. " Bulls versus Seattle SuperSonics
  • Wednesday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. " Blackhawks versus St. Louis Blues

Buses will leave every 12 minutes from Michigan and Superior starting two hours before game time until 30 minutes before the game begins. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.

Lexus December to Remember Classic at United Center on Saturday
The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team faces the Arizona Wildcats at 11 a.m. while the U of I women's basketball team faces the Chicago State University Cougars in a 1:30 p.m. contest in the Lexus December to Remember Classic at the United Center.

#19 United Center Express buses will leave every 15 minutes from Michigan and Superior from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Following the end of each game, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.
