Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains between UIC-Halsted and LaSalle

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Friday, December 5 until 7 a.m. the following morning due to signal repair work.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Saturday Night – Southbound
From 10 p.m. Saturday, December 6 until 7 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations.
 
During this time, southbound Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Southbound Blue Line Trains between Harlem and Forest Park

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains operating between the Harlem and Forest Park stations from 11 p.m. Monday, December 8 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem and Forest Park stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Blue Line Trains along the Forest Park Branch

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Pulaski and Kedzie stations from 9 p.m. Monday, December 8 until 1 a.m. the following morning due to CTA construction work.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday 1 a.m. – 4 a.m. – Pulaski to Western
The late night single track affecting northbound Blue Line trains will continue from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning, December 9, between the Pulaski and Western stations.
 
During this time, northbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan and Western stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Blue Line Trains between Cicero and Kedzie-Homan

Due to CTA construction work, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Cicero and Pulaski stations from 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 9 until 1 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Cicero and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday 1 a.m. – 4 a.m. – Cicero to Kedzie-Homan
The late night single track affecting northbound Blue Line trains will continue from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, December 10, between the Cicero and Kedzie-Homan stations.
 
During this time, northbound Blue Line customers at the Cicero, Pulaski and Kedzie-Homan stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Southbound Blue Line Trains between Western and Kedzie-Homan

From 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, and then again from 9 p.m. Thursday, December 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Western and Kedzie-Homan stations due to CTA construction work.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Western station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Brown Line Trains between Western and Kedzie

From 9 p.m. Friday, December 5 until 9 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains between the Western and Kedzie stations due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project.
 
Northbound Brown Line customers at the Rockwell and Francisco stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Irving Park Brown Line Station Reopens Saturday

The Irving Park Brown Line station will reopen to customers on Saturday, December 6, following the completion of renovation work to rebuild the stationhouse and platform, and make the station newly accessible to customers with disabilities. 
 
Irving Park is the thirteenth of 18 stations to be completed as part of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project. With the reopening of the Irving Park stationhouse, a total of 86 out of 144 CTA rail stations are accessible.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Brown Line Trains at Kedzie

While crews continue work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, a single track will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains between the Francisco and Kimball stations from 9 p.m. Saturday, December 6 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Brown Line customers at Kedzie must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Daytime Reroute of Southbound Brown Line Trains at Fullerton Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for southbound Brown Line trains at the Fullerton station from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, December 8 through Friday, December 12, while crews complete station renewal work.
 
During this time, southbound Brown Line customers at Fullerton must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Brown Line Trains between Western and Kedzie

A single track will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains between the Western and Kedzie stations from 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 until 9 a.m. the following morning due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project.

Brown/Red Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown and Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont & Fullerton

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, southbound Brown and Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks at Belmont from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 6. 
 
Southbound Brown and Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
In addition, northbound Red Line customers at Fullerton must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey; however northbound Red Line trains will stop at Diversey.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers traveling to Diversey should exit at Fullerton and board any northbound train to Diversey. Customers at Diversey who want to travel southbound should board any northbound train and exit at Belmont to access a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction and route of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Bypassing the Wilson Station this Weekend

Due to work on the main platform at the Wilson Red Line station, northbound trains will temporarily bypass the Wilson station from 8 p.m. Friday, December 5 until 4 a.m. Monday, December 8.
 
Northbound customers who want to exit at Wilson should travel one stop north to the Lawrence station and board a southbound train. Northbound customers who want to board at Wilson should board a southbound Red Line train and travel one stop south to Sheridan to board a northbound train.

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between 63rd and Garfield

Due to CTA track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the 63rd and Garfield stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, December 7 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at Garfield must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Monday night through Friday morning
The late night single track will continue to be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the 63rd and Garfield stations for an additional four nights from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, December 8 through Friday morning, December 12.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at Garfield must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

 
  • Saturday, December 6 at 11 a.m. – Illinois Basketball: Men vs. Georgia
  • Saturday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. – Washington Wizards versus Bulls
  • Sunday, December 7 at 6 p.m. – Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. – New York Knicks versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. –Ottawa Senators versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer will make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

CTA Provides Service for Bears Game

The #12 Roosevelt, #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, December 7, versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kickoff is at noon.
 
#128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will operate from 10 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for one hour.
 
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
 
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field. The stations are located at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Changes to Eastbound Bus Stop at Washington and Wacker

Due to the completion of construction work, the eastbound bus stop located on Washington and Wacker will no longer be served by #20 Madison, #X20 Washington/Madison Express, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th and #157 Streeterville buses.
 
Customers are advised to board and exit buses from the bus stop located on Washington at Canal.
 
Eastbound #129 West Loop/South Loop buses will continue to make stops at Washington and Wacker.
 

Temporary Relocation of Northbound Bus Stop at Commercial and 87th

Until further notice, the northbound near side bus stop located on Commercial Avenue at 87th will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to building demolition work. This bus stop is served by #N5 South Shore Night Bus, #26 South Shore Express and #71 71st/South Shore buses.
 

Two Bus Routes Detoured for Helicopter Lift at Michigan and Randolph on Sunday

On Sunday, December 6, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Randolph Street will be closed between Michigan and Columbus due to a helicopter lift taking place at 200 E. Randolph. During this time, #4 Cottage Grove and #60 Blue Island buses will be temporarily detoured.
 
Northbound #4 and #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Columbus to South Water for the end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #4 and westbound #60 buses will operate from South Water to Michigan and then resume the regular route. 
 

Five CTA Bus Routes Detoured for the 63rd Street Holiday Parade

On Saturday, December 6 from noon until 3:30 p.m., five CTA bus routes will be temporarily detoured for the Greater Southwest Development 63rd Street Holiday Parade. The parade will step-off from Tripp Avenue and proceed east along 63rd to Oakley, north on Oakley and disband at 62nd.
 
Northbound #49 Western buses will operate over the regular route along Western to Marquette then will travel via Marquette, Damen, 59th to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #52A South Kedzie and #53A South Pulaski buses will travel over their regular routes to Marquette then will operate via Marquette, Cicero, 59th, Kilpatrick to the Midway/Orange Line terminal for their scheduled service stops. Buses operating along both routes will depart from the Midway/Orange Line terminal via 59th and #52A buses will travel to Kedzie and resume the regular route; while #53A buses will operate to Pulaski and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #52A South Kedzie and #53A South Pulaski buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #63 63rd buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd continue past Cicero to Marquette then will travel via Marquette, Damen to 63rd and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses will travel over the regular route along California to Marquette then will operate via Marquette, Damen, 59th to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Toys for Tots Parade May Cause Delays in Bus Service Along Western Avenue

The annual Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade will take place on Sunday, December 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The procession will travel northbound along Western Avenue between 87th and Foster, and west on Foster Avenue to Troy.
 
During this time, all CTA buses will travel over their regular routes; however, delays can occur for all eastbound and westbound CTA buses that must cross Western Avenue between 83rd and Foster, as well as northbound #49 Western buses.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route

With the exception of December 25, hours of operation on the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended through Saturday, December 27, 2008. During this time, the Museum of Science & Industry will open at 9 a.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and at 11 a.m. on Sundays. Closing times will vary.
 
Service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies Van der Rohe each morning approximately 35 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus will depart from the museum approximately 40 minutes after closing.
 
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25.
 

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses

Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction

Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.
 
Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.
 

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
 

#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Temporarily Rerouted

The #2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will continue to be temporarily rerouted until further notice.
Northbound #2 buses will operate over the regular route along Drexel to 47th, then travel via 47th, Woodlawn to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #15 buses will operate over the regular route along Hyde Park to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn, 47th, Drexel to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #15 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge

Until further notice, two CTA bus routes will be detoured around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

 

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work

Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.
 

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction

Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.
 

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand

#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line’s Grand station.
 
Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio then return to State and resume the regular route.

 

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.
 

Buses Reroute Due to Construction

Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure

Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Ellis and 57th

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop located at Ellis and 57th will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to construction on the University of Chicago campus. This change will affect #171 U. of Chicago/Hyde Park and #172 U. of Chicago/Kenwood buses.
