Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of August 17 – August 19

Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Single Track in Effect This Weekend for Slow Zone Work
CTA Blue Line trains on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line will share a single track between Grand and Division from 8 p.m. Friday, August 17 until 5 a.m. Saturday, August 18 and again from 8 p.m. Saturday, August 18 until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 19. Customers will board and exit train on the north side of the platform.

Weeknights through mid-September, single tracks typically will be in effect from Grand to Division from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning, Monday nights through Friday mornings. On Wednesday, August 22, a single track will be in effect from Grand to LaSalle. Customers will board and exit trains on one side of the platform.

CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks This Weekend
Southbound Red Line
Southbound Red Line trains from Fullerton to Cermak/Chinatown that normally operate through the subway will be rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Sunday, August 19 until 5 a.m. Monday, August 20.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Fullerton and Cermak/Chinatown: Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets on the Inner Loop track. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to board southbound Red Line trains on the southbound platform.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak/Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Northbound Red Line
From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, August 20 through Thursday, August 23 and Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31 northbound Red Line trains from Cermak/Chinatown to Fullerton that normally operate through the subway will reroute to the elevated tracks.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak/Chinatown stations. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Southbound Red Line Service Temporarily Suspended at Jarvis, Morse and Loyola Stations
Southbound Red Line trains will temporarily operate on southbound Purple Line tracks at the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations. Southbound Red Line trains will be unable to stop at the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 17 until 4:30 a.m. Saturday, August 18 and again from 10 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. each morning beginning Monday, August 20 through Friday, August 24.

Southbound customers who want to exit at Jarvis, Morse or Loyola should board a northbound train at Granville and ride back to these stations. Southbound customers who want to board at these stations should board a northbound train, exit at Howard and board a southbound train.

CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Overnight Single Tracks in Effect on Red Line Subway
A single track will be in effect on the Red Line between the Grand and North/Clybourn stations from 11 p.m. Friday, August 17 until 6 a.m. Saturday, August 18 and again from 11 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday, August 19.

Northbound customers boarding at the Grand, Chicago and Clark/Division stations must board on the southbound platforms. Southbound service is not affected.

Other Events Affecting Weekend Service
Late Night Reroute on Red Line This Weekend
From 9 p.m. Friday, August 17 until 5 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, southbound Red Line customers boarding at Belmont will board on the Brown Line side of the tracks due to construction.

From 5 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, August 18 southbound Red Line customers boarding at Fullerton should board on the Brown Line side of the platform.

CTA Provides Service to Air and Water Show
CTA is a convenient travel option to spectators heading to the Chicago Air & Water Show Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19, along the lakefront from Oak Street Beach to Fullerton. Water performances begin at 9 a.m. and air performances start at 11 a.m. continuing until 4 p.m. both days.

Additional buses will operate on the #72 North and #151 Sheridan routes which operate close to all the activities. Following the show each day, extra service will be provided on the #22 Clark and #36 Broadway routes.

The #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express routes operate to Michigan and Delaware which is within walking distance of Oak Street Beach.

Customers may take the Blue, Pink, Brown, Orange and Green Lines to downtown and transfer to Red Line trains in the State Street subway. Customers also can reach the Air & Water Show by transferring from the Blue Line at Damen, the Red Line at North/Clybourn or the Brown Line at Sedgwick to extra #72 buses that will supplement regular service along North Avenue from California to Clark.

CTA Provides Service to Beyonce Concert
The Chicago Transit Authority will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Beyonce concert on Saturday, August 18.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the United Center. The #19 buses will begin their trips south on Michigan from Chicago Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Buses will operate approximately every 12 minutes until the last bus leaves Michigan/Chicago at 7:00 p.m.

For one hour after the concert ends, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison at Wood near Gate 3, departing approximately every 15 minutes.

Buses Reroute for Two Back to School Parades
Danny K. Davis Back to School Parade
Seven CTA bus routes will reroute for the Danny K. Davis Back to School Parade from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 18.

#20 Madison buses will operate in both directions via Madison, Laramie, Washington, Austin then resume the regular route.

#57 Laramie buses will operate in both directions via Laramie, Washington, Cicero, Jackson then return to Laramie and resume the regular route.

Westbound #66 Chicago buses and #70 Division buses will operate in both directions via Cicero, Augusta, Laramie with the #66 returning to Chicago to resume the regular route and the #70 returning to Division and resume the regular route.

#72 North Avenue buses will operate in both directions via North Avenue, Laramie, Grand, Austin then return to North Avenue and resume the regular route.

#85 Central buses will operate in both directions via Central, Grand, Laramie, Harrison then return to Central and resume the regular route.

#126 Jackson buses will operate in both directions via Jackson, Laramie, Harrison, Central then resume the regular route.

24th Ward Back to School Parade
Five CTA bus routes will undergo reroutes from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 18 for the 24th Ward Back to School Parade.

Westbound #12 Roosevelt buses will travel over the regular route to Central Park then will operate via Congress, Pulaski then return to Roosevelt and resume the regular route.

Eastbound #18 16th-18th buses will travel over the regular route to Pulaski then will operate via Cermak, Ogden to Albany and then resume the regular route.

#52 Kedzie buses will operate in both directions via Kedzie, Ogden, Central Park, Douglas Boulevard then return to Kedzie and resume the regular route.

Southbound #53 Pulaski buses will travel over the regular route to Roosevelt then will operate via Kostner, 16th Street then return to Pulaski and resume the regular route.

#82 Kimball buses will operate in both directions via Homan, 16th to Central Park and resume the regular route.

Jackson Closed for Taste of Austin
Jackson will be closed between Central (5600 West) and Austin (6000 West) for the Taste of Austin festivities from 11 a.m. Friday, August 17 until 10 p.m. Sunday, August 19.

#126 Jackson buses will reroute in both directions via Jackson, Central, Madison, Austin then return to Jackson and resume the regular route.

Longer Trains Provided for Reggae Festival
CTA will operate longer trains on the Pink and Green Lines to accommodate the anticipated crowds following the Chicago Reggae festival at Union Park on Saturday, August 18. Concerts begin at noon and are expected to end at approximately 10 p.m.

Fullerton Buses Reroute Due to Construction
#74 Fullerton buses will undergo a reroute near the Red Line station beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, August 19 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 20. Buses will travel over the regular route to Sheffield then will operate via Lincoln, Halsted, Webster, Sheffield then return to Fullerton and resume the regular route.

Buses also will undergo a reroute from 9:15 p.m. each evening until 4 a.m. each morning from Monday, August 20 through Thursday, August 23.

Walk for Moral Excellence March
#49 Western buses will reroute from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 18 for the Walk for Moral Excellence march. Buses will operate in both directions via Western, 71st, Damen, Marquette then return to Western and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute Downtown for Filming
Seven CTA bus routes will undergo reroutes from 7 p.m. Thursday, August 16 until 6 a.m. Friday, August 17 for filming.

Southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express and #146 Inner Drive Michigan Express buses will operate via Michigan, Randolph to State then resume the regular route. Northbound #146 Inner Drive Michigan Express buses will operate via Washington, Michigan to Wacker then return to Michigan and resume the regular route. Northbound #2 and #6 buses are not affected.

Northbound #29 State buses will operate via State, Randolph, Dearborn, Wacker then return to State and resume the regular route. Southbound buses will operate via Wacker, Clark, Washington then return to State and resume the regular route.

Southbound #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will operate via State, Wacker, Clark, Washington then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #146 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses will operate via State, Washington, Michigan, Wacker then return to Michigan and resume the regular route.
