Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour and accessible, modern stations and platforms.

Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.

Three-Track Operation at Belmont and Fullerton Underway
Red, Brown and Purple Line Express trains are operating on three tracks instead of four at the Belmont and Fullerton stations.

Although trains continue to stop at the stations, one of the four tracks along the platforms at each station has been taken out of service while the platform is rebuilt and tracks are reconfigured to allow room for elevators to be installed. The specific track to be taken out of service will vary during the course of the project.

Customers are encouraged to adjust their travel patterns by switching to bus service, or leaving earlier or later. There are more than 40 bus routes that can be used as alternate transportation, including nine lakefront express routes that provide direct service to and from the Loop during rush periods.

The CTA's web site, transitchicago.com, and the ctabrownline.com site have information pertaining to the three-track project.
