Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour and accessible, modern stations and platforms.
Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.
Temporary Closure of Kedzie and Rockwell Brown Line Stations September 30 and October 1
Work scheduled this weekend on the Brown Line will result in the closure of both the Kedzie and Rockwell stations from 3 a.m. Saturday, September 30 through Sunday, October 1. Brown Line trains will resume service at Kedzie and Rockwell on Monday morning, October 2.
During the Saturday and Sunday closure of Kedzie and Rockwell, Brown Line trains will operate between the Loop and Western station. Bus shuttle service will be provided to customers free of charge between Western station and Kimball station during regular Brown Line hours as a substitute for rail service. The bus shuttle will make stops at the Western station, Rockwell and Lawrence, Sacramento and Lawrence, Kedzie and Lawrence, Kedzie and Wilson, and at the Kimball station.

Additional Service Provided for Bears Game Sunday
CTA will provide additional service on the #12 Roosevelt and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and will operate the #128 Soldier Field Express for the Chicago Bears game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 1. The game begins at 7:15 p.m.
#12 Roosevelt will operate additional buses between State Street and Soldier Field.
#128 Soldier Field Express will operate non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field for the convenience of Bears fans. Service will operate before the game every 15 minutes beginning at 4:30 p.m. and every few minutes for one hour after the game ends.
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
#146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will operate additional buses to Soldier Field every few minutes for two hours before the game and for one hour after the game ends.
In addition to the extra bus service, CTA will operate longer Red, Orange and Green Line trains for customers traveling to and from Soldier Field. The stations are at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium. CTA will operate longer trains and provide additional CTA personnel at the Roosevelt Green and Orange Line elevated and the Red Line subway stations to assist customers.
State Closed for Electrical Work through October 27
State is closed between Kinzie and Hubbard and Hubbard is closed between State and Wabash weekdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. through Friday, October 27. Northbound #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will operate via State, Kinzie, Dearborn, Hubbard, back to State, then resume the regular route.
115th Closes for Sewer Work through October 20
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, October 2, 115th will close between Michigan and Prairie through Wednesday, October 20.
Eastbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses will operate via 115th, Michigan, 111th, King Drive, back to 115th, then resume the regular route.
Hyde Park Boulevard Closes for Sewer Work through October 6
Hyde Park Boulevard will close in the 5400 block from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6. Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will operate via Hyde Park, 53rd, Lake Park, Garfield, back to Hyde Park, then resume the regular route.
Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.
Single Track in Effect on Red Line Friday and Saturday
A single track will be in effect between Garfield and 69th from 8 p.m. Friday, September 29 until 8 a.m. Saturday, September 30 and again in the same location from 8 p.m. Saturday, September 30 until noon Sunday, October 1. During these hours, north and southbound customers boarding at the Garfield and 63rd stations must board on the east side of the platform.
Single Track in Effect on Red Line Sunday
A single track will be in effect between 63rd and 69th from 9 p.m. Sunday, October 1 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 2. North and southbound customers boarding at the 47th station must board on the west side of the platform.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between 63rd and 69th from 11 p.m. Monday, October 2 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 3 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday night. North and southbound customers boarding at the 63rd station must board on the east side of the platform.
A single track will be in effect between 79th and 87th from 11 p.m., Wednesday, October 4 until 4 a.m. Thursday, October 5. North and southbound customers boarding at the 79th station must board on the west side of the platform.
Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.
These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency. The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Over Weekend
A three-phase single track between the Pulaski and Austin stations Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.
From 11 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Pulaski and Cicero stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board on the south side of the platform.
From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Pulaski and Austin stations.
North and southbound customers boarding at the Pulaski, Cicero and Austin stations must board on the south side of the platform.
From 6 a.m. until 7 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Pulaski and Cicero stations.
North and southbound customers boarding at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board on the south side of the platform.
Customers should allow extra travel time.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Orange Line for Maintenance Thursday
A single track will be in effect between the 35th/Archer and Western stations from 11 p.m. Thursday, September 28 until 4 a.m. Friday, September 29.
North and southbound customers boarding at the 35th/Archer and Western stations must board on the north side of the platform.
Portions of Howard Bus Terminal Temporarily Closing During Construction
Beginning at 4 a.m. Friday, September 29, a section of the Howard bus terminal will temporarily close due to the rehabilitation of the Howard station. As a result, buses on the #201 Central/Ridge, #205 Chicago/Golf and #206 Evanston Circulator routes will not enter the terminal at Hermitage through December 1, 2007. Customers can board or exit the #201, #205, #206 at Howard and Ashland or Howard and Paulina.
Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, September 29 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 2, customers will be able to board or exit #22 Clark and #97 Skokie buses just south of their normal location in the east lane of the Howard terminal.
Single Track in Effect on Purple Line for Viaduct Replacement Work Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between the Dempster and Foster stations from 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 29 until noon Saturday, September 30 and in the same location from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, October 1. On Saturday, north and southbound customers boarding at the Dempster and Davis stations must board on the west side of the platform. On Sunday, north and southbound customers boarding at the Dempster and Davis stations must board on the east side of the platform.
