Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

All Late Night Trains Operating on the Same Tracks at Jefferson Park Next Week

Late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Jefferson Park station from 11 p.m. Tuesday, September 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Wednesday, September 28 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Jefferson Park station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on O’Hare Branch

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains serving the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations beginning Thursday night, September 29, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Montrose
From 11 p.m. Thursday, September 29 until 1 a.m. the following morning, Blue Line customers at the Montrose station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Jefferson Park and Montrose
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, September 30, Blue Line customers at the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Daytime Reroute for Brown Line Trains This Weekend

Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to the Loop) tracks between the Southport and Irving Park stations from approximately 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, September 24 and then again from approximately 5:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 25, while crews work on the elevated structure.
 
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line customers at the Southport, Paulina and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Loop) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Daytime Closure of the Main Entrance to the Francisco Station This Weekend

From 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, September 25, the main entrance/exit to the Francisco Brown Line station will be temporarily closed while crews repair decking at the east end of the platform.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to enter and exit the station through the Sacramento Avenue auxiliary entrance/exit and board and alight trains from the west end of the platform.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the Garfield Station Early Monday Morning

All Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the Garfield station from 12:01 a.m. until 4:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, due to track maintenance work.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Boarding Changes at the Grand, Chicago and Clark/Division Stations Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations next week due to track renewal work.
 
Monday and Tuesday – Affecting Northbound (to Howard) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Monday, September 26 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 27 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to Howard) customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform. Customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday and Thursday – Affecting Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 28 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Thursday, September 29 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform. Customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service for the Packers versus Bears Game This Sunday

Fans heading to the Bears game versus the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 25, will find the #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses provide affordable and convenient travel options. Kickoff is at 3:15 p.m.
 
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
 
The cash fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. Exact fare is required. Customers who use CTA fare media on the #128 will be charged a regular CTA bus fare.
 
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
 
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will be detoured from 1:45 p.m. until approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m. – Washington Capitals versus Blackhawks*
  • Tuesday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. – How Sweet the Sound concert
 
*(pre-season game)
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Service for #19 Buses
Due to the closure of some downtown streets for Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project, the following service changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses are no longer being rerouted and have resumed traveling east on Washington over the regular route. The following changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses:
 
  • Monroe/Canal: the temporary eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Washington/Canal: buses have resumed serving the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
  • Washington/State: buses have resumed serving the eastbound far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are being detoured and are traveling over the regular route along Madison to Franklin then operating via Franklin to Randolph and resuming the regular route. The following changes have been made to stops served by westbound buses:
 
  • Madison/Wacker: the westbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Madison/Clinton: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Randolph/Wacker: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Canal: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Jefferson: buses are serving the new westbound near side stop.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Relocation of Bus Stop at 900 W. Harrison

The mid-block stop located east of the eastern crosswalk at 900 W. Harrison has been relocated west of the western crosswalk. This stop is served by westbound #7 Harrison and #60 Blue Island/26th buses.
 

Nine Bus Routes Detoured for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

From 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, September 24, nine CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus between Congress Parkway and Roosevelt and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event.
 
Buses along the following nine routes will be detoured to adjacent streets: #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #18 16th/18th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express.
 
The event will step off at 8:30 a.m. from Columbus/Balbo, proceed south to Roosevelt then travel via Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo, Columbus, Randolph, Columbus to the finish line on Balbo between Columbus and Lake Shore Drive.
 

Saturday Morning Helicopter Lift Detours #66 Chicago Buses

From 6 a.m. until approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, #66 Chicago buses will be detoured due to the closure of Chicago Avenue between Halsted and Cambridge for a scheduled helicopter lift.
 
Eastbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Grand, Orleans to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Wells then will operate via Wells, Grand, Halsted to Chicago and then resume the regular route.
 

Weekend Reroute for Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

From 6 a.m. Saturday, September 24 until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 26, northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will only be able to serve the bus stop located at main entrance to Wilbur Wright College due to a parking lot repaving and striping project.
 
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route to the main service stop located along Wright College Drive then will continue around on the circle access drive and return to Narragansett then will travel north to Montrose and resume the regular route. Southbound #86 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K Run Detours #68 Northwest Highway Buses

From 7:30 a.m. until 8:15 a.m. Saturday, September 24, #68 Northwest Highway buses will be detoured due to the closure of Summit Avenue between Washington and Touhy for the Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K Run.
 
Northbound #68 buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway past Washington to Summit then will operate via Summit to Touhy before beginning southbound service. Southbound #68 buses will depart from Touhy/Summit and continue east on Touhy to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project

From 6 a.m. Monday, September 26 until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes will be in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes will affect service along seven routes.
 
  • Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
  • Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses Detoured

Currently in effect until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Stony Island/83rd Street

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, November 18, the northbound near side stop at Stony Island/83rd Street has been temporarily removed from service due to a water management construction project. This stop is served by #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
