Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of September 2 - 4

Note: All CTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday schedule Labor Day, Monday, September 5.

Lipps Avenue Closed for Taste of Polonia FestivalLipps Avenue is closed between Lawrence and Veterans Drive until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 6. Westbound #81 Lawrence buses will operate via Lawrence, then Milwaukee to the Jefferson Park terminal, where they will begin their eastbound trips.

Additional Service Provided for Concert at Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island Friday and SundayAdditional service will be provided on the #130 Grant Park Treasures bus route for a concert featuring the Bo Deans and Los Lobos at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 2. Service will operate from the concert every few minutes to the Ogilvie Transportation Center until 30 minutes after the concert ends.

Additional service will be provided on the #130 Grant Park Treasures bus route for Loopfest featuring Def Leppard with Billy Squier at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4. Service will operate to the concert every 15 minutes until 6:05 p.m. from the Ogilvie Transportation Center with return trips operating back to Ogilvie every few minutes until 30 minutes after the concert ends.

Additional Service Provided on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route over the Holiday Weekend?Body Worlds? at the Museum of Science and Industry will be open 24 hours a day from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3 through 9 p.m. Monday, September 5. During this time, #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will operate 24-hour service. The first southbound bus to the museum will depart Chestnut/Lake Shore at 8:55 a.m. Saturday. The last northbound bus will depart the museum at 9:10 p.m. Monday.

During the day, buses will operate every 15 minutes. Evening and overnight service will operate every 30 minutes. Before 11:10 a.m. and after 6:10 p.m. buses will depart the museum at 10 minutes and 40 minutes past the hour.

Division Closes for Fiesta Boricua Beginning Saturday NightDivision will be closed between Western and Francisco from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 3 until 2 a.m. Monday, September 5. #70 Division buses will operate in both directions via Division, Kedzie, North, Western, back to Division, then resume the regular route.

Additional Service Provided for Jimmy Buffett Concerts Sunday and MondayAdditional service will be provided on the #154 Wrigley Field Express route for the Jimmy Buffett concerts at Wrigley Field Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5.

#154 buses provide direct service to Wrigley Field from parking lots at DeVry University on Rockwell, a quarter-mile west of Western and a quarter-mile south of Addison. A $6 fee includes parking at DeVry and round-trip bus transit for a carload of concert goers.

Sunday's concert begins at 6 p.m. with #154 service beginning at 2 p.m. from the DeVry parking lot. The last bus will leave DeVry for Wrigley Field at 7 p.m. After the concert, #154 buses will operate every few minutes back to DeVry for two hours.

Monday's concert begins at 2 p.m. with #154 service beginning at 10 a.m. from the DeVry parking lot. The last bus will leave DeVry for Wrigley Field at 3 p.m. After the concert #154 buses will operate every few minutes back to DeVry for two hours.

(Other CTA Service to Wrigley Field): CTA's Red Line serves Wrigley Field via the accessible station at Addison. Customers can transfer to Red Line trains from all other 'L' lines and from most east-west bus routes. Trips to Addison take less than 20 minutes from stations in the State Street subway downtown, or from Howard where customers can connect from Purple Line trains serving the northern suburbs. Customers using these stations also can take advantage of convenient Park & Ride lots at Howard and Linden. Parking fees at these lots are $2.

In addition to rail service, concert goers can access Wrigley Field from several CTA bus routes: #8 Halsted buses operate north on Halsted from 79th Street to Broadway/Waveland; #22 Clark buses operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard; and #152 Addison buses run east and west on Addison.

On Sunday, #152 buses will operate special service until one hour after the concert ends. On Monday, extra #152 service will be available until one hour after the concert ends.

Summer Service on Some CTA Bus Routes Ends MondayLabor Day marks the end of summer service on some CTA bus routes. Summer service on the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will return to operating on weekends and holidays only (except Christmas Day) and on weekdays from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day. (See separate item regarding special #10 service over the Labor Day weekend).

#124 Navy Pier buses will resume operating from the Pier until 10:30 p.m. seven nights a week.

The #130 Grant Park Treasures route will suspend operations until next spring.

The lakefront museums will continue to be served daily by #12 Roosevelt buses operating east and west on Roosevelt and by #146 Inner Drive/ Michigan buses, which stop along Michigan Avenue north of the Chicago River and serve State Street south of the river. Customers also can walk to the museums from the accessible Red, Green and Orange Line 'L' stations at Roosevelt or transfer to a #12 Roosevelt bus to complete their trips.

Additionally, service to three beaches will end on Monday. Buses on the #63 63rd route will travel as far as 63rd/Stony Island instead of 63rd Street Beach.

On the #72 North route, buses will travel as far as North/Clark instead of North Avenue Beach.

The #78 Montrose route, buses will travel as far as Montrose/Marine instead of Montrose Avenue Beach.

Central and Higgins Close for Sewer Work Beginning WednesdayThe intersection of Central and Higgins will be closed from 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 7 until 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 16. #85 Central buses will operate in both directions via Gale, Linder, Lawrence, back to Central, then resume the regular route.

#88 Higgins buses will operate in both directions via Gale, Linder, Lawrence, Austin, back to Higgins, then resume the regular route.

Main Street Closed for Purple Line Viaduct Repairs Main Street in Evanston is closed at the Purple Line viaduct until late October. #200 Main Shuttle buses are operating in a one-way loop via Main, Ridge, Greenleaf, Chicago, back to Main.

Red Line Work:
Red Line Subway Platform and Mezzanine at Lake Temporarily Closed over the WeekendThe renovated Lake Red Line subway station will reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 6. Prior to the re-opening, the platform and station mezzanine will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, September 2 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 6 to allow for final preparations and removal of barricades. As a result, during these hours trains will not stop at Lake. Customers are asked to use the subway station at Washington.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line over the WeekendDue to the rehabilitation of the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line, single track service will be in effect northbound between 69th and 63rd from 11 p.m. Friday, September 2 until 8 a.m. Saturday, September 3.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next WeekSingle track service will be in effect northbound between 63rd and Garfield from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday night, September 6 and southbound in the same location during the same hours Wednesday night, September 7 and Thursday night, September 8.

Overnight Track Maintenance Temporarily Closes Two Southbound Red Line Platforms Beginning TuesdayTrack maintenance on the north end of the Red Line will take place from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. each night from Tuesday night, September 6 through Thursday night, September 8. As a result, southbound trains will not stop at the Jarvis, Morse and Loyola stations. During these hours, customers who wish to exit at those stations will need to travel to the Granville station and transfer to northbound trains back to those stations.

Maintenance Temporarily Closes Northbound Red Line Platform SaturdayPlatform rehabilitation will temporarily close the northbound platform at the 63rd station on the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 3. As a result northbound customers who wish to exit at 63rd will need to travel to Garfield and transfer to northbound trains back to 63rd.
