Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Rail Service Temporarily Suspended in Dearborn Subway This Weekend

Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations will be temporarily suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, September 18 until 4 a.m. Monday, September 21, as work continues this weekend to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations. Southbound buses will travel along Clark and Van Buren and northbound buses will operate via Harrison and Dearborn.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week at the Kedzie-Homan Station

A late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains at the Kedzie-Homan station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, September 21 through Wednesday morning, September 23. 
 
During these times, westbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track in Effect between the Kedzie-Homan and Cicero Stations

A two-phase single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains between the Kedzie-Homan and Cicero stations on the Forest Park branch beginning Wednesday night, September 23.
 
Phase I – at Kedzie-Homan
From 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 23 until 1 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – Kedzie-Homan to Cicero
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, September 24, westbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan, Pulaski and Cicero stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track in Effect between the Harlem and Cicero Stations

A two-phase single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains between the Harlem and Cicero stations on the Forest Park branch beginning Thursday night, September 24.
 
Phase I – Harlem to Austin
From 9 p.m. Thursday, September 24 until 1 a.m. the following morning, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Oak Park station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – Harlem to Cicero
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, September 25, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Oak Park and Austin stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Continuous Reroute in Effect for Red Line Trains at Sheridan This Weekend

Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will undergo a continuous reroute at the Sheridan station from 6 a.m. Saturday, September 19 until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 20, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Next Week
Work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station continues next week resulting in a reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, September 22 through Friday, September 25.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend

Due to work on the canopies at the Fullerton and Belmont stations, northbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, September 18 until 4 a.m. Monday, September 21.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following events taking place at the United Center:
 
  • Saturday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. – Washington Capitals versus Blackhawks
  • Sunday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. – Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
  • Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. – Minnesota Wild versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Extended Service Hours for #10 Museum of Science & Industry Buses for Harry Potter Exhibit

To accommodate extended hours for the Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science & Industry, buses traveling along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will provide Friday evening service and extended hours of operation on the following dates:
 
  • Friday, September 18
  • Saturday, September 19
  • Friday, September 25
  • Saturday, September 26
 
On these days, the exhibit will be open until midnight. Northbound #10 buses will operate every 30 minutes with the last bus leaving the museum at approximately 12:40 a.m.  Southbound buses also will operate every 30 minutes until approximately 10:25 p.m.
 

Additional Service Provided for Bears Home Opener

CTA will provide additional service on the #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes for the Chicago Bears home opener Sunday, September 20 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Game time on Sunday is 3:15 p.m.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Changes to Bus Stops

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #9 Ashland, #55 Garfield and #X55 Garfield Express routes:
 
#9 Ashland
The southbound far side stop at Ashland/75th Place has been removed from service.
 
#55 Garfield
  • 55th Street/Millard: the westbound near side stop has been eliminated.
  • 55th Street/St. Louis: the far side stop has been reinstated.
  • 3600 W. 55th Street: the near side stop at the railroad crossing has been reinstated.
 
#X55 Garfield Express
The westbound far side stop at 55th Street/St. Louis has been reinstated.
 

#97 Skokie Buses Resume Regular Routing Friday Evening

Westbound and eastbound #97 Skokie buses will return to their normal routing at approximately 6 p.m. Friday, September 18. Buses were rerouted since Wednesday due to sewer and street repairs along Niles Center Road between Main and Lee.
 

UPDATE: Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, will continue to be closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Blackhawks 5K Run/Walk/Skate and Block Party Detours #20 Madison Buses

On Saturday, September 19 from 3 a.m. until noon, Madison Street will be closed between Damen and Wood for the Blackhawks 5K Run/Walk/Skate and Block Party.
 
Eastbound #20 Madison buses will travel over the regular route along Madison to Damen then will operate via Damen, Warren, Ashland to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #20 buses will operate over the regular route along Madison to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, Washington, Damen to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 

8th Ward Back to School Parade Detours Five Routes on Saturday

Cottage Grove between 83rd Street and 87th Street, and 87th Street between Cottage Grove and Chappel will be closed to all traffic from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, due to the 8th Ward Back to School Parade. During this time, five CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Participants will assemble along Cottage Grove between 83rd and 87th streets beginning at 8:30 a.m. The parade will step-off at 10 a.m. and proceed east on 87th Street to Jeffery into Jesse Owens Park at Chappel and then disband.
 
Northbound #4 Cottage Grove buses will travel over the regular route along Cottage Grove to 87th Street then will operate via 87th Street, King, 83rd Street to Cottage Grove and then resume the regular route. Southbound #4 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will operate over their regular routes along Jeffery to 93rd Street then will travel via 93rd Street, Colfax, Anthony to Jeffery and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #14 and #15 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #28 Stony Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Stony Island to 93rd Street then will operate via 93rd Street, Colfax, Anthony, 83rd Street to Stony Island and then resume the regular route. Southbound #28 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #87 87th buses will operate over the regular route along 87th Street to King Drive then will travel via King, 83rd Street, Anthony to 87th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #87 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Sewer Repair Work Detours Three Routes Along 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 20, the intersection of 75th Street/King Drive, as well as 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana, will be closed to all traffic due to sewer construction work.
 
Northbound #3 King Drive and #X3 King Drive Express buses will operate over their regular routes along King Drive to 76th Street then will travel via 76th Street, Michigan, 73rd Street to King Drive and then resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #3 and #X3 buses will travel over their regular routes along King Drive to 73rd Street then will operate via 73rd Street, Indiana, 76th Street to King Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, St. Lawrence to 75th and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel over the regular route along 75th Street to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, 73rd Street, Indiana to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes Due to Street Repairs on Fullerton

Currently in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, the following changes have been made to bus stops currently served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #74 Fullerton buses due to street reconstruction work near the Fullerton Red/Brown/Purple line station:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
  • Fullerton Avenue/CTA Station: the far side stop in front of the station house served by southbound #11 buses has been relocated to a mid-block stop on Sheffield between Montana and Fullerton.
  • Fullerton/Sheffield: the near side stop served by northbound #11 buses has been relocated to a mid-block stop on Sheffield between Fullerton and Montana.
 
#74 Fullerton
  • Fullerton Avenue/CTA Station: the far side stop in front of the station house served by eastbound #74 buses has been relocated to a near side stop on Fullerton at Sheffield.
  • Fullerton/Sheffield: the near side stop served by westbound #74 buses has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Bus Stop at Clark/Lake Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound stop at Clark/Lake will be relocated approximately 100 feet south to a mid-block stop on Clark between Lake and Randolph due to façade repair work at the James R. Thompson Center. This stop is served by #22 Clark and #24 Wentworth buses.
 

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, will be temporarily removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Reroute for Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
 
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route. Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
 

Relocation of #62 Archer Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Friday, October 2, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses will be relocated to a far side stop due to construction.
 

Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses only will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing is due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Bridge Reconstruction Work Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, Touhy Avenue will be closed between Kedzie and McCormick due to bridge reconstruction work. 
 
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Touhy to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Howard to McCormick and then will resume the regular route south of Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.

 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
